General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Congrats to the rest of you! Im not sure if i am going to go to brown because i recently decided i wanted a conservatory bfa in theatre instead of browns ba. but we'll see....

haha suspensions! thats badass...mind me asking what you were suspended for? (huge congrats on your acceptance; I was waitlisted)

I've heard many people who were "surprise accepted" to Brown after having iffy track records (lots of Cs) and other surprises. I love that Brown will look at and accept kids that other Ivies won't.

Don't want to go there though.

I got accepted despite a combination of a D and a C in Sophmore year...tough times for me back then.

I'm itching to call admissions and find out exactly why I was rejected. Can I do that?

Decision: Accepted

Stats:

SAT I (by section): CR 800, M 800, W 760
SAT IIs: Lit 750, Math II 800, US History 740
GPA, Weighted and Unweighted: 4.22 UW

Subjective:
ECs listed on app: some academic competitions, some service organizations, some sports, some political stuff, and much more. I consider myself pretty busy.
Job/Work Experience: I've done something with every summer, mostly less impressive jobs (camp counselor, snack bar employee etc). I was offered a position as a research assistant at Penn this summer, but that doesn't show on my app.
Essays (subject and responses): I like my essays, although Brown didn't get to see as many as my CommonApp school.
Teacher Recs: They should all be glowing, I hope!
Counselor Rec: My counselor loves me.
Interview (feel, interviewer and general location): It was sooo bad. The woman seemed like she didn't know what she was talking about, and it kinda hurt Brown's image in my eyes.
Hook (TASP, RSI, Research, etc.): nothing, in particular.

Location/Person:
State or Country: PA
School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): Public
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Female
Strengths: Scores, EC's
Weaknesses: I think perhaps I looked overinvolved, like I was too spread out in my EC's.

I'm so happy and grateful to have been accepted. Yey! Now I just have to make a decision!

son was accepted. Letter was really nice and individualized. Are all the acceptances letters like that? I'll post stats later.

Lynxie: May I ask what class you recieved that C or D in?

CMA1. Hope it doesn't disappoint you but yes all the letters are like that. Even the rejection or waitlist letters.

But on the brightside just goes to show how much the Brown administration cares about its students.

CMA1, i didn't realized how personalized the letters were! i was just so ecstatic to receive one (including a lovely certificate for getting in) that i looked through the other papers instead. my personalized section reads, "Your strong academic record and the plucky attitude that you disclose in your personal statement both foretell success at Brown. We congratulate you on smashing stereotypes in your own person. We can imagine you thriving in the diverse culture that is Brown."
thanks for pointing that out, or i would have totally missed it! :D

I got the D in History -- I missed the final for (good) personal reasons and the teacher didn't particularly like me, so he gave me a 0. The C was in a religious class, whose final I also missed, but the teacher had mercy in his heart as opposed to the other one and let me make a makeup.

I don't think the waitlist letter is personalized at all.

alvyy, no disappointment at all. I didn't write this post to try to increase my ego, but because I too am amazed that a college admissions office that is overwhelmed with applications, would take the time to individualize letters. Hats off to Brown. Whether my son attends or not, Brown is a class act.

I am glad someone is posting about how individualized the acceptances letters are. I found it truly amazing! My letter even mentioned by name a very unique EC in which I was involved last year. Definitely a class act!

Woot woot, mine isn't :(

I just had a form acceptance letter. Am I missing something? :(

Brown obviously doesn't love us, Lynxie :((

Lynxie, idk if this helps, but my personalized section was the second paragraph...

I received an invitation for STEM, on April 17th (during the ADOCH). Is anyone else from CC attending that specific session?
