OFFICIAL Class of 2015 CMU Decisions Thread

@techie
I am in the Denver area.

We’re in MD, but didn’t get letter today. I kind of thought it would come since it’s only about a 4 hour drive to CMU. (Maybe the “fat envelope” takes longer to get here… )

Backing up indubiously… nothing in Houston, yet…

I’m hoping the same thing, HoComom. I’m in MD as well and was really expecting to see an envelope in the mailbox today.

Weaknesses: SAT and SAT II scores

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: don’t know yet…

General Comments: I really want to find out where this gets me!!! haha :/

^ hmm i guess i was wrong about the female part.

I think its URM/random acceptees today then and rest is on monday

also does anyone know what time on monday? I heard it could also be sunday

620 Math, 630 CR, and 650 Writing add up to 1900, not 2000?

I don’t know I thought that they were mailing all acceptances and that they would post financial aid on the cite 3 days after everything was mailed… if it was all mailed thursay then sunday could work but monday when the mail come is probably the right time…

Still nothing in OH. Looks like I’ll be waiting until Monday also.

Same here. I’m in Cleveland, Ohio and I didn’t get any letter or packet today. Guess I’ll just be waiting for the online decision.

Yea, I guess we have to wait for the online decision. anyone know what time that is?

Nothing in MA

pretty sure some people get it early, My hispanic friend already got in but me and my asian friends havent received anyhting yet… so URMs already got in i guess

I think that in this “instant” age, we sometimes forget that things cannot all happen simultaneously. Even when I send a mass email - I find that it arrives in different people’s mailboxes at different times. Now think about how that works when you are sending something that is physical, vs. electronic.

How many RD applicatants did CMU have this year? How many offers of admission will they be sending?

Think about it… they are probably sending thousands of fat envelopes and tens of thousands of thin ones.

Get a mental picture in your head of what that looks like… it is not a bag or a bucket of mail, but a truckload!

So, once all the letters were prepared they all had to get to the post office - I don’t know if their regular mailman picked them up on Thursday, or if they drove them over to the post office. But, whichever… all the thin and thick envelopes then had to go through some sort of mail sorting machine. If the process started at 4 PM, it is possible that they weren’t even all sorted by the post office prior to closing time on Thursday.

So, I’m guessing some, but not all (maybe only a few!) items actually got on a truck on Thursday.

What order they got into the mail sorting machine… who knows… maybe by region? maybe by college applied to?.. maybe by first ones done… or by last ones done (were they on the “top” of the pile)… who knows.

But while, CMU says they sent them on Thursday, it does not mean they will all then get through the postal system at the same pace.

My guess, is that there is not a lot of rhyme or reason to it.

And of course, the fact that some of them went UPS, means some of them are going through an entire different system.

Hopefully, everyone will have the answers they need/want on Monday. Good luck to all of you!

Decision: Accepted

@ colbye: Thanks for the analysis (and the luck), and that mental image of the truckload of letters was pretty amusing. I’ve always wondered how the people delivering the mail feel when they stuff a big college envelope into the mailbox. Or maybe they just don’t look at it…?

Anyway I haven’t gotten any mail yet (I’m in CT) nor have my status on the WAIITP been updated, so I guess I just have to wait as patiently as I can manage (which is not a lot at all).

Good luck to everyone who’s still waiting to hear back as well, and congrats to those who got in!
