When I was reading last year’s thread, it mostly went like this:
Fridays= Accepted
Saturdays= Deferred
Sundays: Rejected

Do you think this is how it will be this year? I attended an info session and an admissions counselor said that UMich is releasing all decisions on the same day, but wouldn’t that crash the server?

@collegeparanoia they can’t send all the decisions at once, and i am terrified that they are going to do the same thing again because their server just can’t send thousands of applications at once, i at least hope they send the decisions both mixed and randomly…

So I’m on my Gmail account, I open it up and BAM - email from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. I’m freaking out, wondering if they’ve decided to send admissions results extra early this year. I quickly click the email open, envisioning the decision that will change my entire life balancing on this one email - just to see that it’s just a “Happy Thanksgiving from UMich!” greeting. On the one hand, I got all freaked out over nothing, but on the other hand, I was laughing for hours afterwards.

Hi everyone! I applied ea from ny, and I know like 5 other people that applied from my school alone! Did anyone see the Michigan vs Pittsburgh game? It was insane!

wow catsarecats, that’s crazy! I live about 45 mins away from AA, and only 12 people applied ea…then again, we’re a graduating class of 72, so maybe that’s why.

I go to a school in Los Angeles, but about 20 or 25 kids (out of my grade of 75 people) applied to Michigan this year. This isn’t an abnormal year, my school just loves Michigan. I think a lot of the students from last year got in, and about six ended up going.

Eh, I go to this really small school in rural Michigan. On the one hand, out of my class of about 100 kids, about… I think 5 of us actually applied, maybe only 4. Last year 3 applicants (out of 3) all made it in and decided to go, though. Most of the kids in my school go to smaller colleges/community college, it’s not… it’s not an incredibly good school… I think we only have 2 AP classes… it’s a tiny bit sad, but hey! At least we HAVE a school! :)

@sapharodon, same here! My school only recently added an APUSH class, bringing AP classes to a grand total of four! (And we’re only allowed to take 3 -_-) In some ways though, I think this might be an advantage to us. Although UM favors rigorous courses, they often say that they will judge us based on our school’s offerings–and obviously, taking 3, or in your case, 2 APs, is much easier than 8, 9, or 15 BUT it IS the most we can take. ALSO, they look at schools’ student averages (for ACTs, GPAs, how many attend a 2-,4-, Ivy- institution, etc.)
SO, that was my spiel…yea…I just hope we all get in. Hope this helped alleviate some stress!

@RShake SPOILER ALERT: DON’T READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE ACCEPTANCE LETTER LOOKS LIKE!* (I know a lot of people who want it to be a surprise)
Anyway, I was accepted last year during the normal admissions time, and I don’t know if it’s different for EA, but I got an e-mail saying:

"CONGRATULATIONS *****Youre IN!

Youve been admitted to the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts for Fall 2012!

How does it feel to be a Wolverine?"

^That was copied and pasted from my email lol
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! I hope y’all get in! And ask me anything and I’ll try my best to reply with a good answer :P

I hope so too… our school absolutely refuses to weight grades or offer many AP classes because they’re afraid of the gap between high/low achieving students appearing again, resulting in the school being under watch AGAIN. Last year’s graduating class’s average ACT score was 18.6, which caused my graduating class to be forced to take an entire ACT Prep class (an entire course JUST on the test!) unless we were College Ready before Junior year. Luckily I had tested College Ready before then, but everybody else… it’s just incredibly sad. And then I come onto this site, read all these kids talking about how they went to the #3 school in the nation or, “Oh yeah, we’re totally a feeder school to places like Harvard and Stanford and Emory,” and all I can do is feel the colour draining from my face as I realize just what exists outside of this town I’m in. ;_;

Well, I went to a campus tour just on Tuesday. Not gonna lie, it was a bit lackluster. The school gets a ton of hype, but my visit was kind of toned down. The campus is incredibly nice and quiet – lots of shops and restaurants, and the buildings are very modern, but at the same time it seemed sad and gloomy. Again… that’s just what I got from the atmosphere. I’m still excited for my decision in December! :)

“Sad and gloomy”, adiavoy? I don’t know, everything about my visit was great. Ann Arbor is cold, but also lively - you can see crowds of students piled into Starbucks in the middle of the night, scuttling across the main diag (or whatever it’s called), feeding squirrels, etc.

CollegeParanoia, good for you that only 12 of your classmates are applying. I’ve got 36 competitors for my school -_-, though Mich usually takes between 1/3 and 1/2 of its applicant pool from my school.

@adiavoy, a lot of it has to do with WHEN you visit - I toured Central Campus once when, according to the tour guide, a lot of the LS&A students were going to have tests soon, and there weren’t many people outside having fun - but the libraries were jam packed with kids studying and chatting amongst themselves. I came back at a later date when it seemed they were less stressed out, and there was a lot of vibrant activity everywhere. Then again, as a resident Michigander, I will fully admit that our weather can be difficult to deal with for someone out of state. :P

esimpnoxin, do you know if there are any quotas? Be it for schools, cities, states, etc.? And what do you mean “Mich usually takes between 1/3 and 1/2 of its applicant pool from my school”? I thought Pioneer High School, an AA HS, sent the most freshmen?
