Same here! I’m afraid that I’m building up this image in my head of how great it’s gonna be and then December 24th is gonna roll around and I’ll be shaken into reality :(

csinger95, I know exactly how you feel! I have been annoying my family since about November 1st talking about Michigan. I am so nervous! I don’t think I can wait much longer!

What are your guys’ stats? I’m panicking simply because my ACT score is below the middle 50% acceptance, but my other stats are pretty good. Top 7% of high school class, very rigorous course load, tons of extra currics and activities, great essays and great recommendations… just worried :(

Don’t worry because of ACT, csinger95. I know three people who got in with lower-than-average ACTs–2 (24s) 1 (25). The two 24s got accepted into Summer Bridge, but hey, it’s still acceptance! That’s the beauty of UMich, we’re more than just numbers; if all your other stats are great as you say, BREATHE :)

Well that provides a bit of relief, CollegeParanoia For my essays I tried to make them very diverse as I talked about my involvement in musical theatre, my grandma as my prime source of inspiration to become a medical professional, my place within the French community as I traveled to France and hosted an exchange student, and how the UM campus made me feel secure within myself and accepted and how the curriculum will challenge me to reach my full potential… etc.

I just love UM and I can’t imagine going anywhere else! I’m out of state, so that probably makes it a little harder for me to get in too :/

I know what you mean about not being able to imagine yourself anywhere else I’m the exact same way–which scares me, 'cause if I don’t get in…I don’t even…yea…

But about the OOS thing being a hindrance, I really don’t know. I mean, trust me, I’ve heard tons of stories about it being tougher for OOS applicants, but as an IS applicant, I can assure you the same stories exist on this side too–apparently 2/3 of accepted applicants are OOS because only a 1/3 of them actually attend (I don’t remember exactly where I read this though, so it may be false).

ANYWAYS, if you want something concrete that you can judge yourself on, and this goes out to EVERYONE ELSE too, here’s the rubric that UM admissions counselors use (just in case you haven’t seen it; it’s on the UM website):

My Stats are for the most part very good, but hey, I’m pretty worried anyways because of my GPA. One little snafu as a Sophomore and bam. 3.64, even with a generally strong record. I blame being forced to miss 40% of Pre-Calculus… but I digress, since I noted that on my application, they SHOULD take it into consideration… but I’m nervous anyways. >:

Do you guys think that maybe UMich will release decisions a week earlier like they have done in the past?

@Sapharodon

Same, except my problems happened in Freshman year. I hate the term “GPA”.

At the very least, UMich emphasises strong improvement. If your Freshman year was a bit weak but you show improvement into the later years, that will hold much weight as well. :)

Sapharodon (& anyone else), I have a question that you might be able to answer: My freshman year, the majority of my classes were regular, non-honors/ap courses as I honestly had no clue about my option to take such accelerated courses. My grades were A’s with the occasional B. In my later years, however, I decided to take as many honors and AP courses as I was able to - so now instead of having “almost-straight” A’s, I had a combination of A’s and B’s sophomore (1AP, all honors) and junior year (3 AP, all honors except math). Senior year (5AP, all honors except math), so far, I had all A’s and two B’s from first quarter. Will the U of M admissions counselors necessarily see a “downward slope” in my grades? Currently, my weighted GPA is a 4.037 (I got a 4.425 first quarter, though), because I decided to challenge myself and not take the easy, non-honors courses.

when did they start sending out decisions last year??

The first round of decisions came out on Dec.16/17. I hope they come out that early this year!!

so there’s roughly 3 weeks left i can’t believe it. i agree with everyone here, i can’t imagine myself anywhere else. i’m from TX and i literally cannot imagine myself anywhere but in michigan. i went there this summer for a week and it was amazing. but i’m also preparing for two things. 1) if i get rejected, that’ll just suck but i’m pretty confident in my stats. 2) if i get accepted, being OOS, money is a huge issue & i doubt i’ll get any substantial financial aid…so i’ll be accepted but won’t be able to go. that’s probably worse than rejection, haha. but we’ll see…only time will tell.

Seeing this thread on my “New Posts” time line made me think the decisions were released!

csinger95,
Even if your grades are not as high as freshman year colleges will appreciate that you tried harder classes and they realize that the material also gets harder in later grades.

Thanks PennyB! AHHH! I’m so excited, but still not confident about getting in. UM is heaven.

Would anybody here rather be rejected than deferred? I mean, being rejected is a punch to the gut, but is having hope only to have it smashed again worth the slim chances of getting in?

I feel like I would rather be deferred than rejected…although the hope would be slim, it’s hope. :)

Hey guys I am don’t think I’ve wanted anything in life as bad as I want to go to michigan. We are over thinking this, we’re seniors! Chill out till 12/24 and hopefully we all have the greatest holidays of our lives.
Already into rutgers engineering (from nj)

My cousins live in Detroit suburbs and i visited for thanksgiving…really can’t imagine myself anywhere else.
