** Official Class of 2018 University of Michigan EA Decisions Thread **

History also shows early action decisions have come out this Friday for the past few years. Besides this is a thread for class of 2018 hopefuls (incoming freshmen) not transfers

Aka everybody’s getting their hopes up for decisions tomorrow even if they don’t come out because impatient, angsty teenagers…

Don’t forget about the impatient, angsty moms. ;-)

ECAR, I DON’T UNDERSTAND YOUR CONFIDENCE IN YOUR ASSERTION WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY, INCONTROVERTIBLY WRONG!

Specifically, this is ENTIRELY a fabrication about how UMich Undergrad freshman Admissions WORKS:

• First of all, NOBODY WILL BE WORKING ON DEC. 24th.
• Secondly, TRANSFERS have NOTHING to do with freshman UG admissions.
• Thirdly, NOBODY AT UMICH “needs” interim grades to make a decision…if they NEED current grades to make the decision, YOU WILL BE DEFERRED. The app is read by THREE entities before a decision is made…this doesn’t all just magically happen at the VERY LAST DAY OF THE TERM ;)

Do you think the computer generates the acceptances itself?

How it works is that once a given number of acceptances from a geographical area by a reader or set of readers is accumulated in the system, THOSE notices are then sent out in a “batch” or “wave” that is to some degree limited by the technology.

This is why it’s difficult to PREDICT which day the first “wave” actually goes out, and also WHY it’s often on Fridays (enough work has been done/logged into the system to cause a release) but why the waves will CONTINUE in sequence throughout the weekend/Monday on occasion.

I predict with reasonable degree of confidence, albeit ASSUMPTION (I do not work there…I have in the past had associates who HAVE worked there) that you will see the first wave start sometime on or after this Friday, depending on how dire the situation with the common app fail was this year.

If they are WAY behind, then they will likely start the following Friday, but will be out one way or another by the 24th UNLESS THEY COMMUNICATE A DELAY.

^ Thank you @kmcmom13, very nice logic informational post.

ecar52’s statement above is simply wrong.

Here is the offical statement:

These 2 statements put arrows in the opposite direction on the time line. Remember this thread is solely for EA. Transfer students are filling a different class and have nothing to do with freshmen admission.

I just spoke to a live help representative from the admissions office and I asked if there was any validity to the rumors that decisions will be released tomorrow, the answer I was given was a concise “No.” I was then told that no official word has been given on when decisions will be released. However, since I’m in FL I just received an email from my counselor that Florida State, originally scheduled to release decisions on Monday, will be releasing them tomorrow without giving students notice. So that shows the secretive nature of some of these colleges’ admissions processes.

Why would UM’s decisions need to start being there on a Friday? If they don’t start sending notifications out tomorrow, couldn’t they just as likely start coming out early next week as opposed to waiting until the 20th?

Because in the world that we live in, everything has to be complicated and secretive and a surprise. I really don’t know why the admissions office can just tell everyone a predicted date rather than saying “sometime on someday this December before the 24th.”

They do it on a Friday night and over the weekend because they don’t want to impact the work of their staff and professors by slowing their email down to a crawl during the work day. It’s a logical IT resource thing. Many of the schools that post announcements online have their web servers crash on decision release days. It took people hours and hours to find out their decision for Northwestern a couple years ago. The server crashed over and over and over…

Guys, why would Michigan’s admissions office tell you when they are releasing? They are not allowed to tell you!!! If they were then Michigan would tell everyone…

Last year’s thread started posting decisions around 3pm on this same Friday.

shout outs to Rishika and Sahr #michiganbound :)

I am apart of Michigan 2017 and as someone who was anxiously awaiting decisions last December I do remember a friend of mine telling me THE DAY OF (Friday the 14th) that the counselors were aware that decisions were being released that day. Whether he actually got true information… Who knows. Let’s see what happens tomorrow

@student58 how do they know???

i’m class of 2017
last year hs counselors got a mass email from michigan telling them when they were going to release decisions a few days before
someone on cc’s counselor leaked it, i then asked my counselor if this was a real thing and she confirmed it
it’s pretty consistently been on fridays, as i understand it

also don’t freak out about deferrals
i had a 3.6/31 and i got in in march
i subscribe to the multiple letter theory, i had the first one

Guys, I’ve been following this thread for a couple of days and as an EA applicant myself I realized that we are all on the same boat and are equally anxious. Let’s just wait till tomorrow and see if what we wanted will come true! Best of luck to everyone!

@xinyuexu Just waiting is no fun and is impossible to do with something so important on the line.

Hi to anyone that has a different opinion about admissions then I do. I don’t care anymore about this topic. I have read tons of information and my conclusion is; I don’t believe anybody really knows what is going to happen. Therefore, I am done commenting until the end of December. Thank you.

Goodbye to you and your terrible grammar, ecar52
