Lol unfortunately I am not joking…they just said no later than the 24th

if we have to wait another week, I might go insane and I’m not kidding.

I’ve already been going crazy for the last week. I can’t handle another.

My mom said her friend’s kid got a rejection email saying that “we appreciate your interest in U of M” but they rejected her. This was yesterday. I live in Northern Michigan. She also had an ACT Composite of 25 if that’s significant.

Has anybody gotten an honest first hand response yet?

I’m pretty sure the admissions office is going to get angry if people are constantly calling asking the SAME question on the release date. If you see on these posts, the admissions staff is giving the SAME answers. It’s not going to help to keep calling. You won’t get a different answer.

People from MI- Have any of you talked to your guidance/ college counselors about this yet? They’re the ones that get the heads up first, so that would be the most reliable source to find out when we get decisions. I would ask my counselor, but I live in Colorado and was the only one from my school that applied, so she won’t hear anything from them…

My guidance counselor says that the earliest she imagines decisions to be released is the 20th

I talked to my counselor and she said that she has not heard anything from UofM. She said to expect the Friday before break (I.e December 20th) and considering we’ send ~80 kids to UofM each year, I’m assuming they’d give her a heads up.

It looks like it’s going to be the 20th then. If that’s what all of the counselors are saying, then I trust it. They’ve always gotten an email before decisions come out, and it seems that no one has received any notification form the admissions office. Ahhhh this is terrible…

Why do they tend to start on Fridays?

Because they don’t want to clog and crash the servers during the weekdays.

So we are 100% sure no decisions will be released today?

Is sending out 30,000 e-mails really that big of a drain on servers? I would imagine a school with 40,000+ students would have quite high capacity tech-wise. I’m sure they do mass mailings quite frequently to students and staff.

I don’t think we can ever be 100% sure, but it’s unlikely.

Well it looks like it’s really not happening today. I’m talking to someone from admissions right now via live chat and she says “No, we truly have no specific date yet” which is better than saying “by the 24th”.

Lol, they must be getting irritated.

It makes sense for UM to issue the decisions on the 20th. It will mean that they can accept less people and improve on their US News ranking. UM-EA applicants may have also decided to apply early decision to other schools. If UM waits until after the early decision notification dates., those accepted early decision applicants will withdraw their applications from UM and then UM need not admit them.

I was also on Livechat and they couldn’t confirm one way or the other whether or not there were more applicants this year than last year.

It seemed like something they could say yes or no to, or at least “it looks that way”.

But all they said was there was no data to support it

Hmm… interesting logic. Do ED applicants have to withdraw their applications elsewhere immediately?
