** Official Class of 2018 University of Michigan EA Decisions Thread **

I applied on November 1st lol

I honestly think the time you turn in your application has no effect on how they view your application. There would be no point of having a EA deadline if they didn’t treat the students the same. The only time it would have an effect is if the school is rolling and U-M is only rolling for regular admission. Most of the time, they just make sure that you turned it in before the EA deadline. Just think if the kids that are super conscious and make sure that everything is perfect before they turn it in… There’s a deadline for a reason.

12 hours ago this had 34 pages…
I am still very eager to hear my decision though.

Anyone see any changes with WA? I was just on there and noticed something about the LSA honors program. It wasn’t there a few days ago. Strange.

"Welcome to the LSA Honors Program Application!

Thank you for your interest in the LSA Honors Program. However, our records indicate that you are not eligible to apply to the LSA Honors Program. Please email us at honors.admissions@umich.edu for more information. "

Hmm… I don’t remember if I said anything about being interested in their honors program.

where does it say something about the honors program? I don’t see it…

It’s under the “Self-Service” tab

i see it now phewwwww that almost gave me a heart attack! lol

Did you guys fill out the “Scholarship profile” thing? under the financial aid part

I didn’t… though I’ve been curious what that is all about…

@WishfulWolverine I’m not sure if we’re supposed to or not. I just filled it out to be safe. lol

Your date of submission does not change how they view your application. they just get more time with it. They’ll look at yours first whenever your extra materials are submitted, and will have also had all the extra time to read your essays instead of quickly having to crank them out to meet the deadline. I’m just saying what I’ve been told from admissions reps and my college counselor.

I read the LSA Honors application thing and I almost had a heart attack when it said that their “records tell us you’re not eligible to apply”… Does everybody’s say this?

Hi! Does anyone have any perspective on how much better of a student you have to be to get in if you’re applying out of state compared to their released averages?

Yes it does, I didn’t even apply to LSA (applied to CoE) and I still get that message.

DeltaG’s information corresponds with my past information, so take her/his advice at face value.

His/her POINT was that of his/her class, 80 ultimately got in, two of them were accepted EA and the rest were confirmed after being deferred…and that there was a bit of a phenom in terms of hearing a FINAL decision earlier if you submitted earlier. This does not mean there is unequal consideration of your application.

What there is to take from this helpful contribution is that if you were close to the deadline and are deferred, AND you have the stats FROM a strong school where your in the top 10% or so (if delta is from international in Bloomfield, its more like top 3/4, but that’s because THAT school generally has the top 2 percenters of most of the students in the state in terms of stats and rigor) then take heart even if you’re deferred.

Applying in sept or early October ALSO infers a certain “preference” for Michigan, wherein its usually truly your top choice. In terms of yield, that’s another reason that applying uncommonly early can yield a more immediate acceptance.

With the common app failure this year and a 25% increase in applications, do not be surprised or devastated if there are more deferrals and delayed responses. These delays are a function of a holistic review. A holistic review gives a stronger class character than straight up stats-only. Don’t wish away the very thing that makes Michigan such a great experience, in other words :)

I’m now sending you all some “chill” mojo to finish up your terms and have some fun while those readers are working around the clock to get your apps read and ranked :)

My first choice/dream school is Michigan but I wanted to polish my essays and thus got my app in only a few days before the Nov 1 deadline. D’oh!

Being deferred really sucks even if I get accepted in RD; it’s not the same ):

@cabooser
It is not likely that 50% deferred student got accepted as UMich defers almost all students who are not accepted in the EA. It may be the case when the overall acceptance rate was higher. i will expect the acceptance rate for EA to be higher than their overall acceptance rate of ~31% and the RD (including deferred from EA) to be lower than that.

Am I being too wishful to think that Michigan didn’t release them yesterday because it was Friday the 13th? I wish they would release them today! Michigan is my dream!

LOL, NO Michigan did not release them yesterday because they “told” all of you they would release by the 24th. The college wraps up exams by the 20th and the college holiday break begins which is a far more likely date if you are an odds-maker.

Given all the posts yesterday from the admissions office on the release date, I doubt we will see decisions coming out in the next few days. They’ll most likely start coming out on the 20th and beyond…
