<p>Essays:
CommonApp Essay- wrote about a solo concert where my A string (main string on the violin) broke as I was walking on stage, and it was about how I was able to transpose my way through the song without sheet music and without anybody even noticing. I also made it a metaphor to life and the underlying message was about how the best things happen when the knowledge is there but the foundation is removed. It also talked about being in the present but thinking in the future, and I thought it was engaging as it showed my personality, passions, and life goals.
Supplement- Intellectual Engagement. Talked about my experience being homeschooled in middle school and how that made me intellectually engaged in the world. It was humorous yet sophisticated. </p>

<p>Teacher Recommendations: (did not read any)
Math teacher- She wrote me a glowing recommendation. I am considering going into Mathematics.
AP US History teacher- He wrote me a great recommendation; it showed a different side of me
Counselor Rec.: She put together a great recommendation with comments from other teachers, and I feel like she really showed my personality and character in the recommendation
Additional Rec.: Did not have one
Interview: Went super well!! The conversation flowed the whole time, and the student was actually in the Bowdoin Chorus, so it turned out that I had actually performed with her! It was probably my best interview. </p>

School Type: Public School (Ranked 1st in ME)

<p>Weaknesses: Critical Reading score, White, No hook </p>

<p>Why you think you received a likely/possible/unlikely prediction: I think I was accepted because of my involvement outside of the classroom, inside of the classroom, and love for Bowdoin (my entire application was very connected to “common good”) </p>

<p>Where else you have applied and/or have been accepted/rejected: JUST BOWDOIN
General comments/advice/hindsight: SHOW INTEREST!!! Also, do not freak out. It does work out in the end. If you put the work in, the results will follow :)</p>

Job/Work Experience: not much
Volunteer/Community Service: various

Essays: Excellent. The centerpiece of my application. QB app has 2 essays, an 800 word biographical and a 500 word supplemental essay. I worked on my essays for a few months figuring out what I really wanted to say/show and how to say it. Probably some of my best writing ever.
Teacher Recommendations: Probably outstanding. Both teachers had me for 2+ classes and EC’s – I chose teachers who had had highest praise for my work and efforts, not the classes I had the best grades in.
Counselor Rec: Very strong. I didn’t read it, of course, but he told me what he was going to write.
Additional Rec: none
Interview: Good. On campus during Explore Bowdoin. </p>

<p>Other
State (if domestic applicant): Northeast
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: independent
Ethnicity: mixed
Income Bracket: <60K
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): QB</p>

<p>Reflection
Strengths: essays and recommendations, immersion in my true passions, love for Bowdoin, </p>

<p>Weaknesses: I’m a lopsided (strong humanities) candidate with little to no interest in STEM. I feel like that is a handicap anywhere at this point in time. </p>

<p>Why you think you received a likely/possible/unlikely prediction: I think I was accepted to (matched with) Bowdoin because it was a genuinely good ‘fit’. When visiting campus I could feel Bowdoin’s values as a palpable aspect of the community and that really impressed me. I felt at home on campus. I love the offer of the college, the state of Maine, the rugged coast, the history, etc etc. I chose Bowdoin over some Ivy’s and other ‘name’ schools, and although I didn’t tell them that, I think my affinity for the college probably came through in my application. After I did a whole bunch of fly-ins it was my Bowdoin banner and Bowdoin polar bear that lived in my room during the fall. </p>

<p>Where else you have applied and/or have been accepted/rejected: had to withdraw all other applications</p>

<p>General comments/advice/hindsight: For future applicants, figure out who you are and make sure that comes through in your application. During HS don’t do things for a resume or a college application, do what you love. This makes you happier and is ultimately better for finding and being accepted at a college that is right for you. Before junior year I had never even heard of Bowdoin and thought I would end up at Yale or a woman’s college…being open to explore different colleges (and my own genuine interests) helped me land where I will thrive  SO so excited to be a Bowdoin Polar Bear <333</p>

<p>@lyricallacuna Did you do Sept Explore Bowdoin or the later one?</p>

<p>@Ramon712 I was at the second Explore Bowdoin session – in late October. Did you do the program?</p>
