I hope this worked… Sorry if it didnt
ACT (breakdown): 29 (33- reading, 32- english, 25- science, 26-math, 10- writing)
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0):? My weighted GPA is a 4.4 though
Senior Year Course Load: Honors Physics, AP Composition, A Capella Treble Choir Honors, AP Spanish, AP AB Calculus, AP Government
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Smith College Book Award, Honorable Mention on the National Spanish Exam
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parentheses): Singing Angels (ranked #2/65), piano at a conservatory, A Capella Treble Choir (Librarian), A Capella Women’s Ensemble, Project Autism Awareness (Founder)
Volunteer/Community Service: 100+ hours at a hospice
Summer Activities: Political internship for a US Senator (knocked the 3rd-largest amount of doors), IYLEP program, shadowed three doctors
Essays: I think my common app essay was really powerful. I wrote about an older woman who bullied my severely autistic sister and how that inspired me to make an awareness project so more people know about autism and don’t make fun of others with it. I felt like my Wellesley essays were also good, but not as good as the common app essay. I wrote about my good friend from Iraq and related that to studying abroad and my audition for a choir I’ve been in for 10 years and connecting that to Katherine Davis.
Counselor Rec: I think it was amazing. My counselor really likes me.
Additional Rec: Should be awesome. My Singing Angels director, who’s known me for 10 years, wrote this.
Interview: Felt iffy about it since I got lost going to where she wanted me to go. I also fumbled a bit.
State: Ohio
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Income Bracket: Probably over $100,000? Not sure
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None! Though my mom knew a few alumnae.
Strengths: Extracurriculars, recommendation letters, essay, grades?
Weaknesses: ACT score, interview?
Where else you have applied and/or have been accepted/rejected: Only Wellesley!!
General comments/advice/hindsight:
I was honestly shocked when I read I was accepted. I didn’t think I would get in because I compared myself to other applicants and thought, “Oh, they’re more involved than I am” or “Oh, they have better grades than I do.” So if you don’t have perfect test scores/grades or participate in a million extracurriculars, don’t let that deter you from getting into Wellesley. I firmly believe Wellesley admissions look at you as a person and see if you would fit in. I think my involvement in choir for such a long time definitely helped, so try to find a niche and stick with it! Quantity matters over quality
