General Comments:

Hi! I applied ED II and have been in shock from my decision all weekend.
Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): N/A
ACT (breakdown): 35 (36/33/36/35)
SAT II: N/A
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.87
Weighted GPA: School doesn’t do this, but I calculated it and got a 4.5
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 87/387 (terrible but my school does unweighted rankings…and most of the students only take 2-3 APs a year so this isn’t exactly accurate)
AP (place score in parenthesis): Psychology (5), US History (5), Lang (5), Calc AB (4)
IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
Senior Year Course Load: AP Gov/Pol, AP Micro/Macroecon, AP French, AP Stats, Chamber Orchestra, AP Lit, AP European History
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.):
I have virtually no awards apart from the AP Scholar w/ distinction (or something…?) and a handful of debate awards

Subjective:

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis):

  1. Debate (President/Captain). I did LD and essentially built my team from the ground up. I didn’t win too many awards as I was entirely self-taught, but I did qual for state this year and I tried to emphasize the traditions I created within my team.
  2. Viola (Principal for 4 years). Our school played at Carnegie Hall, which was super fun.
  3. Journalism (Editor/Writer). Nothing super exciting here.
  4. Writing. I run a small creative writing blog and write for fun before school and journal at night.
  5. Tarot Card Reading…this one is super weird but I enjoy it.
  6. Sledding…also strange but I have technically won a cardboard sledding competition in Alaska and would have set a record if a moose hadn’t been in the way. I’m weirdly good at it.
    Job/Work Experience:
  7. Hostess at a restaurant over the summer of 2019.
    Volunteer/Community service:
  8. Volunteer at an exotic bird sanctuary
  9. Volunteer at a women’s reproductive health clinic
    Summer Activities:
  10. Summer volunteer trip to Costa Rica to learn about environmental impacts on our beaches.
    Essays (rating 1-10, details):
Personal Statement: 7.5/10. It was creative but certainly wasn’t going to win a Pulitzer.
Supplement: 8/10. I felt like I worded this much more awkwardly than I did with my PS, but I did pour my heart into it and wrote about things that really made me excited to go.
    Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):

Teacher Rec #1: 8/10. My APUSH teacher wrote this and he really liked me.
Teacher Rec #2: 6/10. My Calc AB teacher wrote this, but we didn’t really know each other that well beyond what I was like in the classroom.
Counselor Rec: ?/10. She wrote it the night before the deadline (no shade to her–she’s incredibly overbooked and I don’t know how she manages) so I have no clue how good it made me look.
Additional Rec: 10/10. My debate coach wrote this, and she knows me best out of any other faculty member at my school. We’ve spent a fair amount of time together since I’ve often been the only person debating at tournaments and she’s and English teacher, so I’m assuming it was probably the best LOR out of the ones I sent.
Interview:
It was super short, but the woman was very sweet and seemed to like me a lot. She told me that she thought I’d be an amazing fit and that she wanted me to email her if I got in, but I didn’t feel as though we completely clicked if you know what I mean,

Reflection
I’m still freaking out…Wellesley was a hard reach for me and I’m still shocked that I got in.

Strengths: Nothing really stands out on my application…maybe my essays?
Weaknesses: Stats/ECs
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I tried to show how independent and intrinsically motivated I am through my essays and through the explanation of my activities. I also attempted to present my self as unique and out-of-the-box, and I think that I was able to accomplish that.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Accepted:
University of Warwick (PPE)
University of Exeter (PPE)
King’s College London (PPE)
WIllamette University w/ Trustee Scholarship
UPitt w/ guaranteed admission to Pitt Law and Dean’s Law Scholarship

General Comments: I just…wow. I wasn’t expecting this and I can’t wait to meet everyone next year.
