Just got in with 80,000 (total) dollar merit scholarship guys

SATs were not required since I’m an international student but I sent them along anyway. You can check out one of my chance me threads if you wanna know about my extracurriculars. Also, text me if you feel like reading my essays
Neu is my last choice college and I was hoping for a little more Aid but I’m super excited since an acceptance doesn’t really hurt
accepted into D’Amore-McKim School of Business with International Scholarship My class went crazy this morning. We were in our common room and one boy got accepted and then i received the email and i got accepted and then another boy got accepted as well and we yelled so loud that my Math teacher came to ask if we were watching a soccer match or something
I got in, but I’m confused. People on here talking about financial aid not being enough? I read that northeastern promises to meet full aid, so how is that a problem?
@TheSardine - Northeastern promises to meet full need as they determine it, and their definition of what you can afford is possibly higher than what is actually affordable for your situation.
My head is still spinning. I thought yesterday that their Dean’s Scholarship/grant and gift aid included the $5,500 my son would take in a Stafford Loan, but it does not! Northeastern has met our need completely, and probably a little more. Our EFC from the FAFSA and NEU’s calculation of our Family Contribution are close (NEU’s is a bit higher), but it’s all met. I was not aware of the Northeastern Promise. What confuses me the most is he was deferred EA. He missed the admissions phone call yesterday, so this is all so great, but why was he deferred to begin with? He is COS, Biology if he attends. Still waiting to hear from 4 more schools and financial aid from 6. Good luck to all of the students wherever you decide is the best place for you. I am amazed at the stats and candor of this group and wish you all the best.
Right, @odd1out & @TheSardine. I’m one of the ones worried about the aid. S’s $72k over 4 years is amazing, no doubt, but when the COA is ~$65k/yr it won’t go that far. The remainder is about 50% of our annual income.
Winky1 it’s quite possible that they have a set count of students they admit early, by major, and there were too many for bio. That may have leveled off in RD. I read on another thread that your son completed some survey that NEU sent, therefore showing interest. I believe demonstrated interest is more important than ever with so many top students using NU as a safety for Ivys, since there is no supplement and it’s literally a push of a button to apply.
Accepted with sat 2160 gpa 3.73
I just sent over my January makeup sat score yesterday. But it seemed like I wasted 11 dollars haha. I didn’t know the admission decision would come out this morning.
@suzyQ7, I think you make some good points. And from what I can tell, those accepted EA were really the top of the pack type of students. Yes, he did complete the survey about NU In that supposedly all RD applicants received, and I know he sent in 2 updates to his portal whenever he received accolades for different things. He also raised his gpa in the first semester.
Declined:
97 WGPA with many AP, Honors, and college clases
1930 SAT
27 ACT
Great ECs including many leadership roles and many awards both academically and for community service.
Honestly, my son lost interest in the school after an overnight visit. He didn’t send any of his later awards or his updated resume. So, not exactly crushed. But congratulations to all who were accepted.
