EC’s – Not a lot of them because he focused on his robotics team – served as Captain and was a Dean’s List finalist and did a summer research internship at a local university.
After the first wave of students were accepted into the honors program in February, we didn’t know what to expect and S didn’t do anything to demonstrate further interest.
The financial aid offered is in step with the EFC number based on our 2015 tax return, but my husband lost his job last July so the EFC is not in step with our current reality. Very grateful for the good news and generous offer, though.
@beachgirlny - He spent a night there with two friends that graduated his HS last year. He went out with them to a few parties. He did not feel safe walking through some of the areas there. And driving through those areas the next day, I agreed with him. I would think it would seem even scarier at night.
So, he never sent them his updated resume and did not inform them of subsequent awards he won from the school, the BOE, or the community.
@NorthCoaster I see a decision’s tab, terms of admissions, portal instructions etc but nothing on financial aid guess it means I didn’t get offered a scholarship
Does anyone see where to decline the offer of admission? My son has decided not to attend, so we’d like to open up that spot for someone who does. We’ve looked all through the portal and the tabs that were alongside the admissions letter, but nothing.
@MountainGrl You have to log in Admitted Student Website. There is Self Service Tab where you will find the option to decline the offer. Hope it helps.
I just received an email telling me that there’s going to be an admitted students and alumni reception in my country. What happens during these events? Are they beneficial?
Does anyone know if an award is listed as merit scholarship, is it still possible that we will get a grant or an adjustment on our tuition in addition to the merit award. Like when you fill out the net price calculator and they tell you what you would get from the school as a grant or aid. Is that in addition to the scholarship for merit?
My son received the Dean’s Scholarship first then was offered additional School Grant once we submitted the Tax Form. We also just found out online they actually increased the grant after we updated the FAFSA.
I logged into myNEU portal today to view financial aid stuff, this afternoon I logged in again and it is blank, when I log in I get to a homepage with no tabs like there were before. Anybody else have this problem?
I still have no idea to why I was rejected! I neither got waitlisted nor put in the NU IN program IDGI
ACT: 32 (E: 33 M: 32 R: 33 S: 30 and Essay: 36)
SAT II: BIO II- 730
GPA: 4.2
Science major at my school with hardest classes offered
Great activities (founder of club, secretary , school competitions and volunteering) I don’t want to get specific but I had A LOT!
And a well written common app essay
I am not sad but this rejection just shocked me especially since my stats lie within the acceptance range and I applied to more selective schools
@Upenngirl98 This school has become very selective in the last 2 years. I know students there now who say they would not likely be accepted if they had to apply today, with their HS grades/scores. From your name I assume you want to go to U Penn anyway, so good luck with that.
Yes, you show interest by visiting, clicking through emails they send you, talking to them at college fairs or school visits. I’m guessing they rejected you because they assumed you were using them as a safety and wouldn’t come. This is known as “Tufts Syndrome”.
Applying ED is the best way of showing interest but this year’s ED acceptance rate was ~25% which is less than last year’s overall acceptance rate. And in this thread, a bunch of people mentioned visiting and emailing, etc. but got denied with good stats.
With 50,000+ applicants and 2.5 months to make decisions between Jan 1 and yesterday, I wouldn’t expect NEU to really have much time to pay much attention to demonstrated interest?
