Northeastern EA Deferred 2019

Hey guys,
I-like many applicants-got deferred from Northeastern. Does anyone have a good sense of what it takes to be accepted for RD?

I’m honestly not sure and I’m very confused considering I got into a few schools that are more selective/competive than Northeastern. Maybe I didn’t show enough interest?

I had 33 superscore ACT, 3.72 gpa on 4.3 scale (A+'s are counted as 4.3), (about 4.2 weighted gpa), great essays and leadership. Do you think I got deferred because I don’t have good enough of an application? Or do you think they can’t decide between N.U.in and normal acceptance? Also, I visited campus.

Does anyone know someone who was accepted after deferral? I kinda wanna see those stats.
I was deferred with 33 ACT and 103.2 weighted GPA. I had a lot of EC and leadership positions and a good essay. My guidance counselor is writing a letter of continued interest saying its my top choice, and I’ll be writing my own email for continued interest, and I also plan to visit the school again very soon. Is Northeastern okay with LOCI? I know Michigan was specifically against it.

I was deferred yesterday as well. I’m not sure how this happen but 7 people from my AP Gov class applied, 1 got in and the rest of us got deferred. I’m super confused ??‍♀️

Also does anyone know how many people get in after deferrals?

@charykit @SeniorSzn If you look back at last year’s RD thread here on CC you can see who was admitted RD after being deferred EA/ED.

Our daughter was deferred also. She has seven EA and rolling admissions so far, many with pretty big merit scholarships and several Honors College. But Northeastern has gotten SO POPULAR and several from our high school were admitted ED this year - I think it’s just a crazy numbers game!

FWIW, she expressed interest, visited/toured and also did a prospective engineering student day of learning there. She is a match on paper but still was deferred. They have have so many applicants and only so many spots. I’m relieved that she isn’t too upset for the deferral, though. She really liked the school but is happy to have other options, and there is still a chance of RD to look forward to.

I hope your kiddos are feeling okay after being deferred. Not an easy process!

My son was deferred as well and many other students at his high school were also deferred. He did visit the school. I am sure many applicants that were deferred will receive an acceptance in March, especially if mid-year grades are good and the applicant continues to express interest. Best of luck, everyone.

@charykit1 S17 and a friend of his were deferred and accepted.I think NEU is one of the unis that defer generously.

@ilovebillyjoel what were his friend’s stats?

My daughter was also deferred with stats that we felt would make her a match for the school (especially after looking at Naviance). One thing we noticed when sending in her LOCI is that her Admissions Adviser was changed a couple of days after the EA notification. Was wondering if anyone else had an adviser change. We are in CT.

what is LOCI and FWIW?

@sfruhling Letter of continued interest and for what it’s worth.

@sfruhling Letter of continued interest

For what it’s worth

I’m really curious if Northeastern puts any weight to the high school you’re coming from. My daughter’s high school has a pretty high rate of acceptances. I’m not sure if any were deferred and then accepted, just overall acceptance rate is pretty high. Getting this information from Naviance. It’s a public STEM school that you have to apply to, to get in, so the caliber of student is pretty high.

@alliblues Northeastern and colleges generally absolutely do pay attention to specific high schools. A part of the job of regional reps is to know the schools in the region. The school profiles as sent by college counselors also add context as well.

For Naviance stats, you also have to remember that NU.in acceptances will be listed on the graph without distinction as well. The acceptance rate has also changed a good deal over time so make sure the data is from the past 3-5 years at most. All that said yes acceptance rates will be higher for some schools than others.

@tommc1 same… new admission counselor… weird… but maybe they need new eyes to see it

any updates?

anyone know when decisions are being released
