@suzyQ7 Yeah I guess lol Its just that I was unable to visit farther colleges and I missed the school fair lol
Well everything happens for the best:)
@jenmejli I saw a lot of kids get deferred, but didn’t see many posts at all where kids said they were rejected- with high stats- and showed demonstrated interest. Its a fact that they are rejecting a lot of lower stats kids (ACT under 30, GPAs under 3.6) but what we are trying to figure out here is why high stats kids are getting rejected and not getting offered NUin or something like that. It points the fact that NEU doesn’t think they will accept. Did you see high stats kids (with interest) getting rejected in these threads?
Does anyone know if it’s easy to change major within a college? If so how do I go about doing that? I got accepted to the college of science under physics, but I want to switch to neuroscience.
@searchngmom if you applied for financial aid the school will calculate your need based on their definition. If you are awarded a merit scholarship they will first use that to meet your need and then give you grants for the rest.
@erd2020 - yes, it’s very easy to switch majors, even between colleges. You should be able to apply via a link on myNEU once you commit, and for most majors it’s basically automatic. (Once you start, there may be prerequisites to complete before you can start.) I have a friend who switched to neuro before starting freshman year with no problem.
Still wondering about the financial stuff. Does anyone know when they send the breakdown? When my daughter’s friend got accepted to BU, the entire package was in her acceptance letter down to the penny including work study and all forms of aid. I am happy that my daughter was accepted, but still anxious to know what it would cost.
Do you guys know whether activating the myNEU account after getting accepted means I’ll be committed? Should I leave the account until I decide? I’m afraid of clicking on it!
@nastassjaa No, it does not. I activated it for my son because that was the way to decline admission. You wouldn’t be committed until you make a deposit and that’s by 5/1 usually.
@searchngmom there should be a tab on the left of the applicant decision portal that says financial aid. It is in there all detailed out. If you don’t see a financial aid tab and you applied for aid you should call the school
Got into Northeastern! I’m not sure if I’m going to go there because I have quite a few other college decisions coming out, and it was a middle school for me.
Major: Mol & Cell Biology
SAT: 2020 (combined)
GPA: Weighted 3.93, Unweighted:3.8
International Student from the Bahamas.
Rejected by Northeastern with a transfer guarantee for a future term. Is this something meaningful or just some bs that they tell every student they reject? I’m from Boston and know a few other kids that got this same decision so maybe its just something they tell kids from the city?
Northeastern was by far my first choice and honestly right now I’m feeling pretty disenchanted with my other options.
@Chris817 I am not sure that “Tufts Syndrome” really exists, but I am shocked that so many highly qualified applicants were rejected. College admissions seems to have become a crapshoot. Honestly, I’m pretty disheartened with the process. No matter how hard you work, you can’t guarantee admission anywhere it seems.
I got NUin lol might as well have rejected me
Got accepted to the honors program for cmd architecture
34 act 3.96 UWGPA.
@nanotechnology I applied RD and got accepted into the College of Engineering, undeclared-- so you’re saying I could switch to the business school easily? Because I wish I applied to finance instead of engineering, but realized this too late.
I got in with a 2000 and a 3.36 gpa, I went undecided.
Agree on crapshoot. My Daughter was rejected after deferred to RD from EA. Had a 30 on ACT, Weighted GPA of 4.0 (unweighted 3.75), Class rank or 4, very good extracurricular’s and leadership positions, great recommendations and showing interest post EA deferral. She know of someone at her school with lower credentials and was wait-listed for RD. How many applicants by state and school plays a major role I believe. She still has many great acceptances though and in the end its about what you do wherever you are! Good luck to everyone!
@thesebajun - Some majors have more of a process to switch (nursing and international business are two that I know of), but most majors it’s quite easy to do. The option on myNEU is the first place to go, and if that doesn’t work, get in touch with an academic advisor to find out what you need to do. Don’t worry, you’re not stuck with engineering forever if you don’t want to do it.
does anyone know how many kids Northeastern accepted overall? And/or how many for the NU in program? I was accepted to the NU in program after being deferred EA and am extremely happy about it, congrats to those who also got in!
