Official Class of 2020 Northeastern University Regular Decision Discussion

@Lana22 In the past EA and final RD have started to come out at 3 PM. But last December they threw a curve ball and didn’t start to release decisions until 4 PM. They are released in waves starting in MA and then moving south then west. All decisions are released by 9 PM. All times EDT.

thanks i am in MA, was deferred for International Business. 60 kids from my school applied and we live right outside of Boston; not sure what to expect.

@Lana22 It looks like you met the qualifications, but there were too many students from your HS that applied. Admissions is looking for diversity, which means they limit the number of students they take from any given HS, even if they are qualified. If you don’t get in, your best bet might be to transfer, but that is really difficult for international business since the curriculum is not very flexible.

thanks for the advice! Northeastern is a great school but if I don’t get in I hope I won’t feel too bad because I know I am qualified. I hope the schools I applied to in DC and PA will want kids from MA haha

Thanks ! Anyone else with advice?

So excited!!

This thread is so chill. Y’all should see the one for UCSD. It’s blowing up

Lol they actually tried to inspect the code for their results

@samhyder

Wait until results hit - it gets crazy. The EA/ED thread for 2019 had 1.2k posts and almost 280k views.

Not that this should be too big of a worry, but people were actually once denied for trying to get their admissions decisions early via technical loopholes:

Did anyone get an email today about missing financial aid documents? I am wondering if this is a good sign since we are about 5 days away from decision release.

@LkL5789 Nah, I didn’t. I really hope the decision comes out Tuesday… been waiting so long

@LkL5789 I got an email a few days ago about financial aid documents. I hope this is a good sign, but I’m not too sure. Let’s hope for the best

@schroscat Finalists for the program were nominated on the 12th of February.

so nervous for my son. This is his first choice and it seems like they’ve admitted so many students already!

wait so why are people saying it is coming out on Tuesday? Last year it was on the 17th and the year before, the 18th. Did someone read something from an admissions committee member?

@readyforthenext4 It usually comes out on a Tuesday based on the patterns from years before.

@readyforthenext4 yeah, because the 17th and 18th of March of 2015 and 20014 are both on Tuesdays. So, we are guessing it comes out next Tuesday, which is the 15th. Makes sense, huh?

@dvl2016 Although your GPA and stats are on the lower side for NEU, there are a few things that can be to your advantage. If the strength of your curriculum was good, meaning you took many honors or AP courses, then you would have a better chance. Also, if your school is very competitive, then again the Admissions Officer will have access to your school profile and see where you stand overall. So, don’t loose hope yet; you might be in for a surprise.

Plus, in any case, even if you don’t make it to NEU, just keep your head high and work hard wherever you go. There is no substitute for working hard. Good Luck!

Does anyone know a way to re-calculate GPA based on Northeastern’s method? My highschool weights GPA weirdly.

@thesebajun I believe it’s +.5 to your unweighted GPA for honors classes and +1.0 to your unweighted GPA for AP/IB classes
