Official Class of 2021 Northeastern University Early Decision/Early Action Discussion

@srbt1999, I think my D got that same letter earlier this week…she applied EA on Oct. 31st. It was a rather disconcerting letter in the way it was worded…I tossed it, of I would post the exact wording here.

We are hoping that it was just a miscommunication, because it seemed as though they didn’t know she had already applied.

@binky17 It was via snail mail. It was “personalized” in the sense that it had her name sprinkled throughout the form letter. Some parts below:

"Dear Family of _____

As your family navigates the college application process, we recognize the challenges at hand. Students are bombarded with so much information-and even more misinformation. At Northeastern we know parents are critical partners…"

It then listed 4 tips (paraphrased below)

  1. Encourage ____ to start the process early
  2. Embrace the process
  3. Set aside time for discussion
  4. Remind ____ that the college search is about finding the right fit

I think we got that one several weeks ago. I just threw it away. Some work study kid was probably working off the wrong address list.

My D got the same letter yesterday. Very odd.

@hudsonmom02 thanks. That looks like marketing to me.I think we received it as well.

There seem to be much fewer ED results this year on CC for NEU. I’m disappointed we have no info on the Honors program. I guess we will keep waiting until next week!

^^^ There seem to be fewer results for all of the schools I’m checking. I wonder why?

It could be that this “sophomore transfer” option is only being offered to ED applicants since ED means that Northeastern was their first choice.

@TomSrOfBoston I wonder why they gave this versus Nu i.n.

@aurorablock possibly for financial reasons or an indication that they weren’t interested in NUin

Anyone wanna email their counselor about if NU.in is only an option through ED and RD? :)]

The most recent email from my counselor (11/01) said EA applicant can’t be directly admitted to NU.in, they have to be deferred to RD first. :-?

QUESTION: Those of you who applied for financial aid, did you receive a request to send in your tax forms? (besides CSS and FAFSA).

@DannyPanny I had to send in my parent’s tax returns and my dad’s business tax returns in addition to the CSS and FAFSA

@MichaelA1327 Same. Did you somehow confirm that they received those documents? Because I called yesterday to find out and they said they didn’t know, but that they would send me an email soon to let me know. I understand it doesnt affect admissions decisions but I want to make sure I have my financial aid info should I be offered admission.

@DannyPanny I was asked to send in my parents’ federal tax forms, just a couple of weeks before I received my acceptance. When I sent them, I noticed that I made an error filing my CSS and so I emailed my financial aid counselor. He responded and said no problem, as soon as your forms are processed they’ll get to me and I will make the change.

They’re not good at indicating when they receive things, but they do. I had a similar issue with them when I sent in a non-custodial parent CSS profile waiver and they never indicated they got it or processed it. But they apparently did because they never said that I had to fill out a non-custodial parent CSS profile, haha.

@Bozusaki Thanks for the response and congrats on the acceptance. Is your financial aid counselour the same as your regular counselour (the one pictured on your status check)? Also, do you know if the net price your receive on your acceptance is final because I have a feeling they wont be able to process all my financial aid documents by the time EA comes out next week (considering I just sent my tax forms last week).

@DannyPanny No, your financial aid counselor is different. To my knowledge, they’re assigned based on last name. This website may help you:
https://financialaid.northeastern.edu/contact-us/counselor-lookup/

My counselor is Lee Marrama because my last name starts with F.

I’m not sure if that number is final, but if you’re unhappy with it I’m sure you could contact the aid office and ask questions about reevaluating your package. I wouldn’t be too concerned though, because according to my Gmail account I sent my forms in on the 29th. I received my acceptance on the 8th, so…The turnaround was pretty quick.

I applied ea and I was not asked to send any addition financial items like tax returns, etc. Does this mean that I got deferred/rejected??:(:frowning:

I wouldn’t think so; I imagine they would ask for forms only if they need more info then what is provided in FAFSA and CSS. I didn’t get it and I’m a very competitive applicant for Northeastern so I’d be surprised if that’s signal for a rejection

I agree, I think it’s only meant for people whose income situation may be tricky. Whether you’re low income or your family owns a business or you had married filing separately, they may want to take a look at your forms if only to confirm that you did everything correctly. Speaking personally, they asked for my tax forms and all three of those apply to me.
