Well, its only over tomorrow- and even then it won’t be over for ALOT of kids who get deferred
Does Northeastern deny some kids EA or all EAs that are not accepted automatically differed?
there’s four outcomes for EA: accept, defer, reject, NUin program
@suzyQ7 true^ are most kids deferred? Supposedly they take the top 25% but does that include ED?
does anyone know the acceptance rate for NU in?
@hellaneatbruh they don’t publish those stats
Good luck to everyone tomorrow! I know I won’t be getting too much sleep lol
@basketball64 good luck to you also! Hope we all get in!
At least last year, the vast majority who weren’t accepted seemed to be deferred. They will deny EA applicants who are clearly not competitive, but anyone who’s debatable is usually kept in the discussion.
I think NU uses the deferral more than other schools due to their quick rise in the rankings. They don’t want to take too many EA students in case their RD pool is more competitive than expected (they wouldn’t want to shoot themselves in the foot and stop the rise in rankings by jumping the gun on applicants), but they also want to keep them as an option in case the RD pool is less competitive than expected. For schools that have been consistently in the “x” rankings range, they would probably have a better idea of who is applying every year and have a much smaller margin of error. With NU, because data from the last decade or so is essentially useless with how far we’ve come, we have to hedge our bets every year. I hope that makes sense. (It also explains why the Scattergrams on Naviance/college app websites are probably inaccurate as well).
Good luck to everyone! Did anyone call the admissions office and find out that we are going to hear back tomorrow?
Good luck!
Every time I look at this thread my heart starts beating about 50% faster. I need to focus though, I have several finals tomorrow…
Are most of the deferred students usually wait-listed/rejected in the end? Or are there no stats for that?
@mspaint I don’t think there are any stats on that. I haven’t seen any anyway…
so to kinda answer my own question, according to us news NU had 11K EA applicant and they accepted about half for starting in Fall 2008. They had 36K total applicants (EA, ED, and RD) and the accepted 35% total.
the stats are old but we can be fairly certain that at least 25% of the EA applicants are in with 20K total EA applicants. Hopefully I’m in that top quarter…

What do you guys think of NEUs campus? It seems not great yet it has an A- on niche.com. I’ve visited and thought it was alright campus. Though
I liked the campus! it felt modern and integrated into the city yet still “collegy”. I’m hoping and praying for NU honors so I can live in International Village!
@blountwil2 idt I will get honors so I don’t have to worry about this bUT I heard it’s harder to make friends it’s honors dorming
@mspaint neu has gotten a lot more competitive since 08, don’t forget
@DannyPanny I visited when it snowed the night before, and it snowed quite a bit. so whatever little bits of green that would have been there was buried. But personally I’m really into the urban environment with big glass buildings and such. Sure it didn’t look like Hogwarts but I found all the buildings to be relatively clean. As for student vibe, I visited on holiday so there was no classes going on. It’s really all personal preference.
Good luck to everyone tomorrow!
