Are official college visits always Monday through Friday? Is it possible to schedule a visit for Saturday and/or Sunday?

depends on the school -- some will have regularly scheduled tours and info sessions on saturdays -- it sometimes varies though with the time of year. i've seen some hold special open houses that are sometimes on sundays, but havent' seen any that offer that day as a regular visiting day.
check the websites for the schools you are interested -- most will have a calendar of when they offer info sessions and tours.

We've found that generally only M-F visits are offered in summer, Saturdays are only available during the school year. Be careful, though, some Saturdays are reserved for info sessions only-no intereviews are available. Check the school's website since they sometimes have an Admissions calendar posted.

Sunday morning seems to me a particularly bad time. We didn't visit any schools then, but drove through one or two in earlieri years when near to soccer tournaments etc. No one up and around, nothing doing. There may be exceptions, but I'd avoid that time.

there are official college days on the weekends both during the summer and school year for most campuses. But if you are seriously interested in the school you really want to do a visit on a weekday, preferably during the school year or at the very least, when summer school is going on. You want to get a feel for the campus with people on it

My son has received several invitations to college open houses that are for weekends, some beginning on Thur, some extending through Mon. One problem with the weekend is that you can't sit in on any classes or see mobs of students (or lack of) walking around campus. My son is interested in attending some of these OHs but isn't sure he can give up his weekends (he'll be attending Columbia's Science program (Saturdays). Then again, missing class mid-week is difficult also with the tough schedule these kids take. Plus HS around here have strict attendance policies so you can't miss too many days... When my DD was looking, we managed to plan some of our visits for days the HS had off, like Jewish Holidays or NJ teachers convention. That seemed to work well but the groups were large (everyone in NJ had the same idea)
