Is it worth it to visit colleges on weekends, when classes aren’t in session and there will probably be less students on campus? Or should I restrict visits to Monday through Friday when possible?
@lalalemma Are these visits organized by the schools, or are you going to make your own plans? If it’s a recruitment weekend hosted by the school, those are good to go to. If you’re just going to visit the campus and look around yourself, going on weekends might not give you an accurate portrayal of campus life.
For example, it could be informative to be able to talk to some students, see how happy they look, how many of them attend the lectures, and just get an overall feel of campus with people on it. Even if you do visit on a weekend on your own, you’ll be sure to see some students around. Although you can try talking to them, your sample size would be much smaller.
If you have to organize your own visit, I would suggest going Monday through Friday.
@phospholipase These are my own visits, but I’m planning on signing up for school-sponsored tours and information sessions. I have a week off that I can use for visits and I’m trying to figure out how to use my time most effectively. What I want to do is just go through New England and visit all of the schools that I’m interested in, but it’s looking like that will take 6 days, not 5. So maybe I’ll have to take two trips in New England. But at the same time, it might be worth it to see one or two schools on a Saturday just so I can get them all done.
