Bump please

tphssenior, thanks so much for ur help. Most of the schools im applying to, link me to the common app when it comes to their admissions and supplements. The reason i want to print and send is so i can have back up copies and not get into any issues later. My college advisor told me how last year kids who sent in electronically never got responses. Colleges claimed they never recieved it. thats why.

btw, is there any other way i can contact u for more questions? its really chaos in this thread and a hassle to look back and forth. Let me know, a Pm would be appreciated, thanks!

I sent several apps, but I added one college in my list which I would like to use a different essay. How do I change it? is it possible at all?
All it lets me is to read the essay. I am sure I am missing something. Please respond with some instructions. tnx

When you submit the commonapp online, what do colleges exactly see? Do they see it in paper/print form? Because I looked at the print preview for a supplement I did, and a lot of my words got cut off because I was doing it in semi-paragraphs.

Is that what they see? Should I just put it all in one paragraph?

Harvardprincess's question:

"hey guys, i accidentally inserted a checkmark in a place that wasn't required for me (only international students)

I'm trying to delete the checkmark, but I can't find the way to do it

do any of you guys know how?

your answers will be greatly appreciated

thanks !! good lucks to all~ =)"

I also have this problem; can someone please help? I tried deleting and recreating the supplement, but it's already saved all the info.

I have that problem too...I tried contacting Common App and apparently they have to manually fix it for you...I think.

how do you check your status to each school??for example...when you wanna know if your recs and other stuff got received??

Specific to Caltech Common App:
Under Math/Science activities, how do you choose multiple grades? Right now, it only saves one grade even if I choose three. I'm doing EA, so a prompt response would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks.

Can the essays be submitted on a seperate date from the application(after the actual application i.e.)?

In my city, there is a well-known annual festival called the Neptune Festival. Every year, they select for the festival a king, tritons, and princesses of the royal court. I was selected as princess and I had to go through two rounds of interviews to be chosen. It's not a pageant. There was no evening wear or swim wear show. It's mainly based on community service and the interviews. So should I put in under academic honors (but it's not really academic) or extracurricular activities or addiional info?

Is it okay to apply online and have my school counselor send in my transcript and letters of rec through mail as paper versions? My school does not send documents via the internet for some odd reason.

what is the deal with the "alternate versions" feature of the common app...what can you change and what can you not change..

also how would one go about sending it in via mail instead of over the internet

Question: Is the common app accepted by all colleges?
, if not how can you find out if a certain college accepts it or not..

^ Lol...someone didn't do their research very well.

No, the Common Application is not accepted by all colleges. In fact, in order to send it to a college, you have to register it on your list. The list itself has to be picked from a variety of colleges. If your college does not take the Common Application, it will not appear for selection.

Okay so where do you get this "list" ..

Is it bad to fill in all 7 of the activities? Especially if they are all in different areas (ie Community Service, Debate/Speech, Instrumental Music, Career-Oriented) and for one of them I only spend 2 hrs/week for 40 weeks and for another I spend 3 hrs/week for 20 weeks? Does this convey "breadth, not depth"?

I also plan on filling in the Additional Info to elaborate on a couple of the activities I listed and also list a couple of other ones in passing. I really dedicate myself to these activites and care about them.

But say, I take out the 2 hour and 3 hour one and mention them in Additional Info...does that seem awkward? Because that would mean I didn't fill out all the stuff in the Activities when I could have.

Thanks in advance!

That might have been confusing; what I mean to ask is:

Should I...

Fill out 5 activities, leaving out the ones I spend only 2 or 3 hours a week on and then write about them in the Additional Info since I'm going to be filling out Additional Info anyway, OR

Fill out all 7 activities, because leaving them out in the list and then putting them in Additional Info seems like I'm not following the directions. I will still use Additional Info to go over what I wanted to, just not use it to list the other activities.

Which one?

How many hours are you guys putting for your activites anyway? Is 2 or 3 hours a week really bad and not worthy to be listed?

IMO 2-3 hours per week for 20-40 weeks is highly significant, particularly if you are busy doing something else for 10 hours per week, like an academic team/club, job, sport or music, and are still squeezing in time for community service. As I look at the common app, the activity list is much easier to read than an extra wordy explanation. We used the "position" field to give a 5 word explanation of what the activity was, if not clear. Think efficient, effective communication. If you want to expand on one of these in an essay, go for it.

is it bad if i have 3 activities that are only 1 hr a week (they are clubs)?? would it be better not to list them at all then?
