OFFICIAL Common Application Questions Thread

Looking around on the site, i wasn't able to find anywhere to submit the Athletic Supplement Online, or even a copy of it under My Checklist or Supplements. The closest i could find is that U Penn uses the common application athletic supplement and it has an attached pdf file of it.

Does this mean we can only submit the athletic supplement by mail, and not online?

Thanks for any help.

Yes, by the traditional mail.

What is a good length for the common app essay? (the main one?) Is there an upper limit or a rough number to stick to??

I'd say one page to 1.5 pages. 500-650 words maybe? There is no real limit, but it just makes it easier for whoever reads the essays

Can someone answer this one please?

OK, question about the Short Answer section:

I am writing about my involvement in theater and I want to name plays, but I can't seem to do italics. Which kind of bothers me. Anyone know how to do italics? I tried copy/paste but it didn't work. Should I just not worry about this?

this whole time i was under the impression one could write another essay for the Additional info part, but now im not sure. i have another essay (1 page) about one of my ec's that i wanted to include here...is this ok or do they want like a paragrapgh or a list of whatever..? help please!

I included a supplemental essay because I had nothing else to put in the Add'l Info section, and I had 2 essays that I liked.

how do you delete a newly created application version? i did it by accident and now have an extra, so i want to get rid of it.

Sorry if this was answered before, but where can I put awards that I've gotten like for a contest at a national journalism convention.. am I supposed to put that under Academic Honors? Or additional info..?

if i volunteered at a lab over the summer, is it an activity or summer employment?

i listed all of my volunteer activities as ECs.

In the Writing section, unde the Short Answer about one of your activities:

Do we have to write about particular event in it, or can we just go broad with it? I wrote about one of my activities in a way "what kind of person you should be to do this" that is supposed to show what it has taught me about it. Do you think that's alright?

I just realized that my 2 teacher evalutions for Harvard both say Teacher Evalutation "1" on the bottom.. I need to send this off tomorrow or else I won't meet the application deadline.. Is it OK for me to have it like this? Do you think they'll notice? Is it much of a big deal??

Rosh - I bet those Harvard Adcoms will have no trouble figuring this out. do not worry!

Also Rosh - the postmark deadline is January 1. This doesn't mean it has to get in by that date.

Do colleges know how many colleges you've applied to through the common app?

engineering gal - No they do not.
