OFFICIAL Common Application Questions Thread

Isn't there a drop down list that asks what degree she got? In that case, you can fill out the college name but put nothing for what degree she received.

The Common App has a place for academic honors. Does Forensics and Mock Trial Awards go there? If not, where should I put these awards?

I have a question about supplements.

On the commonapp when I go to the supplemnets section and go to Northwestern, only the ED contract shows up. How do I get the Northwestern supplements? It is the same for other schools too.

Under the "Academic Honors" stuff:
-Do we list each one, separated by a comma?
-Do we put the year(s) that each award was received?

Also,

I took an online Physics course this summer to get ahead so that I could take AP physics. However, under "secondary school" stuff where it asks if I have taken a summer course and asks for a school, I have no way of putting an online course. How do I do this?

Does the CommonApp site actually crash? Seriously?

the supplement form of the colorado college asks"the block plan at colorado college has a tradition of innovation and flexibility, please design your own three and a half week intellectual adventure and describe what u will do?
i really donot understand yhis question .can you help me
post relies with some answers how will i begin

furthermore is it necessary to send the certificates of the ECAs,community service, leadership with the applicationb poacket

i'm not sure if this has been asked before but what if i want to attatch two docs in the addt'l info section?

like my resume, and then some addt'l info to explain things on my app
is that possible?

This might have been answered already but...

I forgot to put in the credit value in the section that asks for this year's courses...

But I heard that it doesn't matter because everything shows up in the transcript. So if this is true, why do they ask this question in the first place, for every college receives transcripts anyways?

HELP:

I'm trying to upload my personal essay (and additional information doc, but that's less important) and it says "invalid file." I've gone to the help section and done EVERYTHING it said (lowercase letters, 10 characters, convert to 1997-2003 file type)...I've even saved it with a ".doc" in the file name. Nothing is working! This is a totally normal Dell computer with Windows XP... I've never had ANY problem uploading Word docs before! In fact, when I sent in my Harvard app, I uploaded it to the Common App no problem! It is for some reason not working today...

Any tips?

Oh and by the way this is on a "duplicate version" of the Common App, so maybe that's affecting it...?

ceebee - that happened to me once. all I did was log out, log back in, and it worked.

Thanks for the advice spiffystars! Unfortunately that didn't work :( I'm contacting tech support.

The school doesn't require SAT IIs and if its on the transcript do u have to send it officially? should you even put it on the application if its not required?

another question (even though my last one wasn't answered), its too late to ask my counselors for a fee waiver for two of my schools but if i turn in all the materials and mark fee waiver on the common app, will they decline my app if the fee waiver is sent after the deadline or will they hold my app until they get the fee waiver request

My main essay for the commonapp is 1300 words. Is that too long?

What is the average word count for most of the essays?

I think that it is. Yale's website, I think, says 500 words.

If I were you, anywhere between 450-800 is fine. 1300 is way to long. 800 is pushing it, in my opinion, even.

Mizlissa,
I think CB SAT report shows all the tests you've taken so if you are reporting SAT I then it will automatically send the SAT II scores as well.
But if you're not sending SAT I score... if it's not required and you have good scores on SAT II, why not officially reporting them? Might add few points for you : ) But if your SAT II scores aren't that good, then logically, don't report : p

mecca femme,
I'm sort of curious about the same thing...

kidchicago,
I am not sure about what all the schools ask or if any of them specifically sets a limit for personal statement, but I think I read people saying around 500+- words? I think I've read some people on CC posting that they wrote an essay of around 400-700 words. But again, I don't know for sure.

Essays are advised to be 500-700 words because the app used to ask for 500. Now it just says minimum 250 words, but we can assume that they'd still want only around a page with 1 inch margins, which is about ~650 words.

can u just send SAT II scores or no?
