CRAPP is anybody having trouble uploading docs to the supplements?

For my essays, I’ve really felt the need to exhibit creativity, etc. But for the CA Short Answer (elaborating on an activity in 150 words or less) is it okay to just explain the activity and how it has affected one’s life, school life, or whatever, and why it is that it is important…but without a flourish? (Still well-written, though)

bump…(if you have any idea let me know)

My essay was almost 170~180 words. I read it and read it over and over again, pondering on the issue of whether this was acceptable or not. I took my time and went on rewriting the whole thing, with a slight modification on form, format, and style as well as content. It’s now down to 147 words.

I think the extra 50 words should not be treated lightly (saying to you, I mean). Try to make things concise - say a lot in few words, can you do that?

It’s ridiculous of them for ridiculing people who are naturally that way. Some people behave this way, while others behave another way.

Also, should I send in a student profile/resume of myself to other schools? Is this necessary? I never thought about it, but I’ve seen it talked about in several forums.

This isn’t very important. In the Family section of the Common App, you can list siblings in college. They ask for dates of attendance, with a start and end date. The trouble is, my brother is currently in college. For the end date, should I put the current date, or his projected graduation date? And yes, I know adcoms aren’t going to make a fuss over it they’ll probably know what I was thinking whichever way I do it, but if there’s a right way I’d like to know. Thanks.

As I stated above I sent it in a while ago.

I put estimated graduation date… that way it shows he’ll be in college for 4 years.

does anyone know?

So if its January 1st deadline, be in by Jan 1st 11:59pm?

ANOTHER QUESTION: If you plan on retaking a subject test, should you list your old scores too?

I wouldn’t worry! Smile! =]

I don’t think it matters whatsoever.

Mine was about 180 words when I sent it in. I don’t think ANYONE would reject someone for an extra 50 words or so. That would be absolutely crazy! I don’t think they’d have any way to count your words either.

Best of luck! And I hope you feel more at ease.

i am too. btw ^— you never replied to my essay.

They’ll see it on your official score report anyway…

Sorry, I’m sure that this has been asked before.

The printed version of the Common Application says “if you would also like to self-report your AP or IB scores, use the Academic Honors section.”

If I fill it in there, do I also need to do it for each supplement that asks? What do I do when the supplements don’t provide enough spaces? I’m also attaching a resume that lists my scores. It this wise or just overkill?

Thanks.

If it looks like an essay, it’s too long - they don’t want another essay. If you look at it and have to ask “Is this too long?”, it is.

mine was about 215 ish. it’s fine as long as you have a LOT to say about it.

If you are writing the common app essay and you do not choose any of their prompts but do an essay of your choice, should you invent a prompt (i.e. title) for the essay?

anyone???

My son edited and edited until he got it down to about 148. And he said ALOT. I think they put a limit for a reason. That being said, I doubt very much they would reject someone just for THAT alone. It probably depends on the school. I love what my son wrote and I love that he was able to say so much in the sort space. I personally don’t think that’s the place to talk about awards. I think they want to know what you learned from your activity or how you contributed through it.
There is a separate place for awards on the activities list and additional info section. If the 200 words were used to state something that is already someplace else in the app, that’s probably a mistake.

it’s extremely slow right now…killing me :(
