OFFICIAL Common Application Questions Thread

And katia… why is MIT a major reach… I think I recall reading that you got into UChicago EA???

1) Just log out, log back into the Common App and you should see something about versions on the front page

2) I believe payments can be made later… I read that somewhere else on CC, so don’t quote me on that

goblue10nis… going over 50 words won’t hurt your chances too much (I don’t think colleges do word counts), but cut it down as much as you can

I hope you realize MIT does not use the Common App

My daughter is having a similar problem to joecollegedad in post #1360. She submitted a supplement before the version of common app she planned. Now she cannot add the college to the new version. It is listed as one of her colleges on her original version of the college app. She cannot delete it from the origianl version not add it to the new version.

ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!

anyone still unable to upload files onto the common app/supplements? it always says theres an error type in the file and this has been going on for the last 3 hours. im starting to get a little worried..

what type of file are you trying to upload???

just a word document (.doc)

hmmm… .doc should upload, make sure its not .docx (the new 2007 format) - that won’t work

maybe you can print it as a pdf and then upload it??? or if theres a textbox, just copy it in?

yea but the weird thing is i had no trouble uploading a document for Stanford, which it turned in about a month ago.

how do you print it as a pdf &upload it? if it comes down to it i might have to just copy it in but for some essays i cant do that(personal essay)

O… you need to get software to print as pdf… its a free, easy download, but a hassle to install

quicker… try just copying into notepad and upload a .txt file
or into WordPad and upload an .rtf file (I think common app takes this) <- rtfs somewhat preserve the formatting

YAY okay great the .txt file worked! i have no idea whats wrong with the word documents. thanks so much!

I submitted an EA horrendously late as EA and the Common App online sent it through just fine. So, yes, you can still submit using the Common App after the school’s deadline has passed.

“And katia… why is MIT a major reach… I think I recall reading that you got into UChicago EA???”

Eh I guess I’m not giving myself much credit! Just trying to keep things in prespective.

And yeah, I know the MIT doesn’t use the CommonApp LOL. I love the MIT app. My question was mainly for another school that, while prestigious, is not on top of my list.

I just submitted my common app to Yale along with the supplement. I had previously entered my really low SAT 2 subject scores in the Standardized Tests portion, which I planned to remove before submitting. In the rush to turn it in before the deadline I forgot to take those scores out. Now although I did not report the SAT 2 tests to Yale, can they still have a major bearing sitting on my common app?
p.s. in case you were wondering the scores were 690 on USH, Math lvl 2 670 and Lit 650. Funny thing is that I got a 36 and 35 on the English and reading sections on the ACT.

is the deadline THRU tomorrow, or just to tonight? meaning until 11:59:59 on 1/1 or 11:59 on 12/31. I’m freaking out.

My goodness that IS a disaster! I’m afraid your headed for rejection.

My deepest condolences.

Well, considering that Yale will see those scores anyway on the official report I think you will be fine. My philosophy was that you should indicate all your scores on the common app so it does not look like you are trying to hide something…

You’ll be fine. I don’t think they weigh SAT II’s as much as the SAT anyways.
