Official Cornell Early Decision Class of 2018

What sage said. Don’t stress too much about it, but do come prepared with some questions.

Will the undergraduate admission office be open on a saturday (today) ?

So excited!!! I just applied to CAS Early Decision (Classics and Astronomy). Does anyone know the rough date we’ll hear back from them with an Admissions Decision?

I read that Penn’s notification date is December 16th (that’s a Monday) I assumed we would find out closer to Thursday December 12th because that’s when they found out last year, but Penn’s later date is making me think that we’re going to find out later too.

Cornell has released ED decisions during the 2nd week of December for the past two years, and they’ve said that, despite the extended deadline, they have no plans to delay that this year. Therefore, I think it’s likely that we’ll be notified near the end of the week of Dec. 9th.

Also, where did you read that UPenn has already announced their notification date?

@Pleiades876: Wait, you just applied? The ED deadline was last Friday, lol.

@ForeverFish I hope so! The earlier we find out the better, this waiting game is horrible!! And I read it in an article so I went to their website here: [Applicant Homepage - Penn Admissions](http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/apply/applicant_homepage)
and if you scroll down to the upcoming deadlines & notifications section it says it there.

My son (ED, A&S) just did an informational interview with an alum. They had a great conversation about what Cornell is like. The alum has a daughter there now, and a son who graduated recently. It wasn’t stressful, he dressed nicely, and came prepared with questions. Probably won’t impact admissions but if you come across as an axe murderer, maybe it would. According to College Board [Admission Interview Tips](Admission Interview Tips – Counselors | College Board) , the alum might pass along their opinion. I believe that happened for me when I had such an interview back in the eighties (I got in!). So relax and enjoy the conversation and you’ll be fine.

Also, see this blog post about interviews: [What is a CAAAN Contact? | Undergraduate Admissions Office](http://blogs.cornell.edu/admissions/2011/11/10/what-is-a-caaan-contact/)

I thought they didn’t do alumni interviews for CAS. Are these just in NY or the east?

My understanding is that it depends on what the alumni network can arrange. We’re in Maryland and there are plenty of alums.

^Hmm, strange. I live very close to Houston and it seems highly unlikely that there wouldn’t be any alums there…

Will we be notified (accepted/denied) electronically?

Can anyone clarify the alum interview process? I’m sure alum interviews could be arranged in most placesif they wanted to put that effort in. Do most applicants get one?

Tides- they send you a link and date/time to check your acceptance status…usually 5pm EST.

anyone know the decisions date yet?
sigh im already nervous.
have an alum interview on tuesday :p

Any one who hasn’t received ID code yet? I submitted all the materials before deadline but still no ID…

If results are released at around 5:00 EST, then I’ll still be in school when I find out! I’ll have to resist the temptation to run and check my phone in the middle of practice somehow…

The general consensus is that we’ll find out on the 12th, but we’ll receive a notification of the exact date/time about a week beforehand. Haha, I’m really nervous too!

Thanks @Renomamma!

@Coriander23: Penn’s ED deadline was 11/1 (they never pushed it back), and they’re not getting notified until 12/16. I’ll be very impressed if Cornell gets ours done before then! But, yes, decisions are always released at 5 PM EST.

If it’s really on the 12th, I’ll be working, which means I likely won’t have a chance to check until my shift is over. If it’s on the 11th, I’ll still be at school. If it’s on the 13th…well, let’s hope not. I’m not a superstitious person, but getting news from my first-choice college on Friday the 13th is not an auspicious sign.

@quanlude it’s been over a week since the submission deadline so I’m pretty sure you should have gotten your id by now. I submitted my app the night of the 7th and I got my id on Wednesday

And hmm, I’m not sure how to feel about penn’s results coming out on 12/16 and cornell’s results possibly coming out earlier. I don’t know which school has more ED applicants, but if it’s cornell, I hope the admissions people don’t just rush through the decisions. At the same time, I’m pretty anxious for results too!
