Official Cornell Early Decision Class of 2018

I received emails from U Chicago and Columbia that their ED will extend to Nov 8. Cornell may follow… I hope.

I spoke with admissions and they basically said the same thing as^^^ CT1417. Guess we’ll just have to sit tight and hope that if anything is missing from our apps, we’ll have time to get it in by 11/1 deadline. They did not say that they would extend the deadline.

Thank you CT 1417!
Hope you are right Tides 23

gwoodad, Do you receive email from Chicago and Cllumbia because you applied ED to all three?

I thought ED is designed for those who will definetely attend the only choice school if they are admitted. And I read somewhere that all these schools with ED option are sharing information among themselves. Am I incorrect?

Findmoreinfo–Chicago just seems to email everyone. My son has never even clicked through to a Chicago site, and they still send emails and all kinds of colorful communications via US mail.

I do agree with you that one cannot apply ED to Cornell & Columbia, but you can receive emails from both. I don’t know Chicago’s EA policy (as in, do not know if they offer open EA or REA).

No. I got the email from UChicago too, and I’m not applying there, nor have I shown any interest in doing so. They just sent it out randomly, and I’m sure it’s the same with Columbia. You can only apply to one school ED.

Sorry for causing confusion… My son is planning to apply ED Cornell later this month. He only happened to register for info session for Columbia Engineering. That seems the reason that we got the extension mail from them. We never did anything for U Chicago. They seem to be very aggressive…Wish good luck to all of you!

Does early decision heavily favor legacies?

I think UChicago just mass-emails EVERYONE. I got their email about the common app fiasco a couple of days ago too! They are just really into marketing themselves, I think, regardless of whether their targets are even applying. Columbia and Chicago are the only two that I know of currently that are offering the ED extension.

And I would think applying ED would help legacies as it shows that the school’s their top choice, but I don’t think it will help them a ton unless they are already qualified to begin with. Then it might, haha. At the same time, I believe (at least I hope) applying ED helps everyone who applies, regardless of whether they have a hook or not :)

Someone may like to know this : Duke extended to Nov 8th too for ED this morning.

Please be noted that Cornell still try hard to keep Nov 1 as ED deadline. I believe almost all applicants should be able to meet the Nov 1 deadline. The way Duke/Columbia grant extra 1 week can only help to relieve stress for those who feel not 100% ready to submit.

Is there any supplemental form I need to fill for Cornell Early Decision? Is it enough to say I am applying Early Decision on the commonapp?

Asabbagh you, your parents and your counselor should sign the Cornell Early Decision Agreement too

Still pondering whether l should apply to Cornell (ED) or Duke(ED).What do you guys think?

BigThink, go for cornell

Ya but where do I get the ED form from? Can you please link me to it?

ED form is on the common app, cornell asks you what is your admission plan and then you say early decision, and before you submit your form you have to sign(write your name and surname). Also on the recommendations form, you will that there is a parents part where you should add a family member so that (s)he can confirm the form as well.

Ya, but I am a little worried about what I read on their website: “Cornell does not accept the early decision agreement form provided by the commonapp.org site.”

Scroll to the bottom to find it [Early Decision | College of Agriculture and Life Sciences](http://cals.cornell.edu/admissions/apply/first-year/early-decision/)

Asabbagh After you, your parent sign the form, bring it to counselor office and you are good if no other issues.

My son just did it 2 days ago with his counselor. I believe his counselor will sign it and submit to Cornell with other school report, rec letters…by naviance. (Or by mail ) Please someone correct me if I am wrong.

Which form are you referring you referring to? The commonapp form? I fear they won’t accept it due what I read on the link below. Please tell me if your son is sure so I can do the same thing without being worried. Thanks :)
