Official Cornell Early Decision Class of 2018

Here is the stats for all the schools!

Buried somewhere on there website is the percent admitted from NY to the CALS college. It’s something like ~48%. So a decent amount do come from in-state. ED also takes your admission chances to something like ~17% to ~33%. This is what the Cornell coach told me (“1/3 chance”). However, I don’t like percentages because, by no means, do they consider any factors of the application. It’s just how many people admitted/apps received. I printed these stats out months ago and can’t seem to find the URL. (They were 2011 class statistics).

@miggie1808 your ACT score will balance out your GPA. and as long you’re “fit” and that your extracurricular activities support your “passion”, you should be fine. don’t worry :)

@miggie1808 I agree with everyone else. “Fit” is a huge part of the selection process so don’t loose hope. I’d rather have my ECs that I’ve worked hard for 4 years to achieve than another point on my ACT or even a marginally better GPA. ECs say who you are, GPA shows your performance in courses, and standardized tests show your performance on a single test. Of course they are all important, but there’s no cut offs! Hope that helped… I’m in the “believe, anything is possible” frame of mind with ED notifications a few days away.

Hey, I even have a count down on my Mac down to the second…

define “fit” for CALS Biological Sciences

same, can anyone define “fit” for Human Ecology?

Seems like lots of you are applying Human Ecology lol, so excited!

I think fit for any school means that your goals, skills, and preparation (e.g. ECs, courses) are a good match for what that specific school has to offer. I have a young friend who is a sophomore in CALS biology and he’s been a passionate birder most of his life, volunteered at the Smithsonian in high school, and basically lives and breathes bird biology. Not hard to convince Cornell (home of the Laboratory of Ornithology) that he was a good fit. Luckily, Cornell is strong in so many areas of biology it shouldn’t be hard to line up interests and experiences and plans with what Cornell offers. I’m not as familiar with HumEc but I think you’d be a good fit if you have both an understanding of the special nature of the college (what other schools have a whole college like this?) and have experience suggesting you care about people and are intellectually passionate about one or more of the areas they cover.

Anyone applying for atmospheric science major?

Sounds like a pretty interesting major!

For those who applied to CHE, what’s your story with your discovery of the college and your decision to apply to it? Because I honestly didn’t know about it and was about to apply to CAS or CALS lol. I found CHE on accident, and now I can’t believe that I almost overlooked my dream school!

thanks for the input! is there anyone else here applying from canada?

@Bubbles888 for me, i just talked about how my “passion” started. my interests. then my ideal college, and through college searches, found CHE at Cornell!

Hi guys! I’m new to college confidential and really bad at this to be honest, but I’ve been silently reading the thread for a while

Sorry… Didn’t mean to hit reply lol but I also applied for CHE. I only submitted one sat subject (math 2)! I actually was wondering if anyone else applying to human ecology got emails about their first quarter grades? My counselor got an email 2 days ago asking for my senior interims and they were sent immediately but I’m not sure what that means…

@crowlady

That’s awesome! Congrats to him for getting in, it does sound like he was a great fit. I’m a bird maniac as well and the Lab of O was another huge reason why Cornell became my first choice.

Also, thank you collegestress for making the countdown clock! Seeing the hours and minutes tick by just makes it seem so much more real.

@collegestress, the clock makes it seem so close yet so far. Lol. And it says D-day.

oh god i can’t focus on my rice supplements i’m too nervous
the stress is real
oh btw anyone else applying to CoE? I’m applying engineering undecided.

@ewintu haha I’m applying to Rice too! yea, not working on any other supplements until we get the Cornell results. argh the wait is _______.

@jerrynomenon getting into CoE is pretty hard, in the beginning of the year, the engineering dean told us the admission rate was less than 10%.
