Official Cornell Early Decision Class of 2018

@kazteq The interview and portfolio were good… I hope! Sorta average on the SAT grades though!

@muhammad I asked one of the admission officers by email about 1Q grades and she said they do not require it at all. Is there anyone who was asked for 1Q grade?

I asked my counselor; in the entire history of our school, they were never required to nor did they ever submit first-quarter grades.

@muhammad9211
I wasn’t asked for my first quarter grades either, but my best friend who also applied ED was asked for her Q1 grades last week…

She applied to CAS by the way

Lol did anyone use ChanceMe to get predictions from others? just curious…

No. Admission and FA office are suppose to work independently of each other. Now, who is to say that admission wouldn’t give FA office a list of students they plan to make offers to. From what I have seen over the years, contact by FA doesn’t mean much, but contact for additional academic information is.

My son attends a high school in NY where at least 30 people per year apply to Cornell. And his counselor told me that Cornell sometimes does ask for first quarter grades. She has not been asked for my son’s yet which is a good thing. However the people on here taking it as a good sign when they are not asked stating that they only ask when they are “on the fence” is obviously wishful thinking. They also won’t ask if you are clearly going to be rejected or deferred. As much as they can be certain of an acceptance and not need to look at 1st qtr grades, they an also be certain of a rejection or deferral and not need them.

So then why are you so confident about your son…?

Uhmmmm I didn’t say I was “so confident” about my son. It was a good thing in his case because his first quarter grades weren’t that great.

@phonem That’s good :slight_smile: Portfolio is definitely the important factor of the admission :))
How’s your average score? I got a 1490 (CR+M)…
Hope we’ll both get in, but AAP is sooooo hard to get in T-T;;

Like I said, its either really good, or really bad. My counselor said he thinks my app should be on the upper end, but I guess its his job to say that :/

A bit over 5 days to go!! Good luck everyone!!

When people say they were contacted by FA, does that mean they were emailed? Or is the section just updated online?

@njl1022 How do they know you’re clearly a deferral? To me, it seems like if you weren’t asked for your first quarter grades, you’re either accepted or rejected. Isn’t being deferred and on the fence pretty much the same thing?

My self service account hasn’t been updated since the 7th of this month. Not that I’ve submitted new information, but the ‘last updated on’ section at the bottom says: 12/7/13
Is that a bad thing?

Have any international applicants gotten notifications from the FA office?
Or updates on the to-do list?

The update is on the to do list. I dont think theyve emailed anyone. Kinda defeats the purpose of the SELF service portal

Oh and has anyone NOT been asked for their financial aid forms? I don’t think being asked for your forms is an indicator that you got in. They just need everyone’s stuff, and then after the decisions come out, they can discard the forms they don’t need anymore. But just for times sake, they’re asking everyone to send their forms in now so that they don’t waste so much time.

@bubbles. All I was saying is that a lot of energy is being expended on deciphering meanings that are imagined. Of course asking for q1 grades could still lead to deferral. Why not? They could be asking for them because they are considering acceptance but unsure whether or not to commit to a candidate early. So they look and decide that the 8week trend whether its good or bad still doesnt justify a decision one way or another. My point was and still is that people who have been asked should not be upset. It means they are or were still in the game whereas some who werent asked are probably already in the rejection pile.

I just asked my counselor about first quarter grades. Mine weren’t requested, though my school will sometimes send them proactively. Like njl1022 said, it doesn’t necessarily put me in either the accept or reject piles.
