@Brouhahah Good luck with the SAT II! I’m hoping that they’ll be a bit more lenient with my math just because I didn’t apply to CoE but instead CALS, which is more about being the right fit for the school, which I totally think I am, as well as being a woman in engineering.

@ForeverFish same here. It’s like, I know my attitude has no affect on their decision because it’s all in their hands now, but I don’t know how to feel! I don’t want to be too cocky and get my hopes crushed, but then again I don’t want to be negative so my hopes don’t get crushed.

I just submitted with the wrong essay. it was the crappy, unrevised version. please, kill me.

I e-mailed admissions hoping they’ll take pity on me and let me change it, which doesn’t seem likely, but does anyone know if there’s anything else I can do? beside curl up in a ball and cry?

^How can you make that mistake if you took it seriously? I checked my essay almost 10 times before submitting it. And doesn’t Common app use your essay for the rest of your schools? I would call instead for immediate action.

I kept re-reading over my essay and it looked good… But I didn’t realize I was reading the preview of my supplement essay, and not the common essay. Obviously I realize it’s a stupid mistake. Thanks. But no, common app allows you to make 3 changes to the essay when submitting to different schools

@Lelyke, there’s no reason to be so harsh. Mistakes happen. When my friend was applying to Yale, she accidentally submitted the wrong resume and was in a similar predicament. She then went on to gain admittance to Yale, Princeton, and Harvard.

However, you are right in saying that @yalesoon should call Cornell first thing on Monday. Since the application deadline hasn’t passed, there should be something they can do to remedy the issue.

Speaking of resumes, does anyone else find the 10 activity limit to be well… limiting? Do you think Cornell would allow us to send a resume? I actually think that it would be unlikely, there is a reason that they cut the activity spots.

It is my understanding that the use of the additional information section is a pretty divisive topic. I can tell you that I did not use mine for just activities. It has always been a point of discussion, but this year there has been a movement to make students focus more on the things of their passion, and really get involved deeply with what they do. By limiting the activities section to 10, CA4 is said to encourage students to report only the things that mean the most to them, and to eliminate extraneous information.

This being said, not all colleges and universities agree with this notion. It is a divisive point for them as well. Stanford specifically request that students don’t include extra activities, and to limit their forms. I don’t know where Cornell stands on this.

While I think that the 10 activities have represented me pretty well, I have some other clubs and achievements I would like listed. Has anyone sent a resume?

I’m planning on it. I’ve a few things there that might be worth looking at, and now I’m debating how exactly to use the “additional info” section.

There’s two school projects that I’m working on, proud of, that I wanna put there…would helping create a mural and creating a musical staircase be things I want to leave in that section (for example)?

And what about…“excuses” if you call them. Something happened to me soph/junior year, and while my counselor mentioned it in her letter (I believe) shall I mention it there again?

And finally, I’m wondering if I should just put something humorous there, not ridiculous, but light hearted…'cuz.

It’s my understanding that the primary purpose of AP exams is for college credit, thus scores are sent to the college you end up attending, after acceptance, and if that college gives credit for that particular score and test. Things could have changed over the past few years but I doubt it.

ILR applicants: Has anyone else received a phone call from an ILR student offering to answer any questions you may have and to just chat with you in general?

Cornell purposefully says only “mid-December” to give themselves leeway. I think sometimes they may announce the date, but I wouldn’t count on it.

HopefulClair–yes, ILR is calling around. I know of three seniors who have received calls during the past two weeks. I find their marketing interesting as they were over-subscribed for the class that entered this fall. They also sent mailers and emails last spring and through the summer and fall.

T26E4–I recall knowing the announce date last December as I was watching this for a friend outside the U.S., so they must at some point let people know. I recall it being one of those 5pm log-ons but cannot recall if it was the Thurs or Fri prior to Dec 15th. (RD has been 5pm of the Thurs prior to April 1 the past couple of years. SO much better than racing home to the mailbox on April 15th!)

Having said all of that, I could see this year’s CA problems causing more significant delays than last year’s Sandy Storm filing extension. My son just received his applicant log-in codes, and the profile shows that he has not selected a college w/in the university when the CA clearly states the school to which he applied and the school-specific supp essay has the green check mark on CA dashboard. Hopefully his problem is a one-off not experienced by others, as every other bit of the app seems to have successfully loaded.

lillypod—CA is SOOO much better than it was two weeks ago, and this is the first problem my son has encountered. (He applied to non-restrictive EA schools also.) I do not know why it didn’t pick up his school choice, so he will have to follow up with Admissions.

When I filled out the CSS PROFILE for financial aid, it said that the award date would be December 13th. I know that that’s liable to change, but I just assumed that would be the day of the admission decision as well. It is a friday. Though Friday the 13th! D: excuse me while I go hide in a corner till then.
