Official Cornell Transfer 2011

Well, I am a new member who is trying to transfer to Cornell for CoE as well.

I think in my case, course req. is not a big problem, but after a disappointing semester, I find it unlikely that I can make it (T.T) considering my not so great HS records.

I’m just applying though, because I don’t think I can meet req for junior standing anyways, since chem-e has its own stuff going on; I’m just playing chances as well—how bad can they be?? It’s definitely better than the probability that I go through a wall suddenly :)

Okay…seriously though, the worst I could get is a “no,” so I guess it’s not going to hurt to try.

I’m also trying to transfer from Duke into Cornell CALS for fall '11 for atmospheric sciences. Woot!

I am in shoe too: my high school GPA is good. However, my SAT was slow… So you planning to apply for other departments. they required an additional essay of 500 words

Really quick question, can anyone tell me how strict AEM is on pre-req. I am applying for transfer admission in spring 2012 and started college this spring. My college’s biology class has basically been booked since day 1 and all they have open is general biology, which probably will not transfer because of topics covered. Since their website states that for AEM, it is encouraged but not required to take the biology, do you think this will be a negative on my application? I do plan on taking Calculus 2, Statistics and one semester of Physics however, so I am hoping it will balance out. Thank you!

So what’s the difference between the main commonapp essay and the supplement’s main (required for all applicants) essay?

I think if they say encouraged but not required, they really mean it. So, it does no harm if you don’t take it.

I think they are asking different questions. So, you would have to write two different personal statements. Correct me if I’m wrong :)

school of ChemE is very strict with its curriculum. I think it’s rather difficult if you don’t transfer early (which you already pointed out). Good luck! It doesn’t hurt to try :)

If everything is transferred (and the number of credits is not reduced), then you will be considered as a junior.

My best advice is to call the registrar for CALS. If you are looking for an answer, I think you do have a choice not to send them.

According to this page: [Cornell University Undergraduate Admissions Office - HOW TO APPLY](http://admissions.cornell.edu/apply/transfer/instructions.cfm), it is the case.

“Please provide a statement (250 words minimum) that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve.”

“Tell us what you’d like to major in at Cornell and why, how your past academic or work experience influenced your decision, and how transferring to Cornell would further your academic interests.”

Not exactly the same but considerable overlap.

Well… do anyone know if mechanical engineering is strict with repreq… and is it difficult to get into mechanical engineering department.

I have a question. Who review your application… is it admission or the faculty of the department?

My high school grades are pretty horrendous through junior year but my senior grades are really good (3.8). And I have a 4.0 in college, what do you guys think? Decent Chance?

Junior transfer btw

Anyone applying ILR?

Billionaire: it depend what college you are applying… well I say you have good chance… as long you bring something different to the table… I can also relate to you. My high school GPA 3.7, however my SAT ver low( i don’t want to talk about it)… my first semester not so great( i got a C in c++): it was my first time taking program course and my first time seeing it… it was something new for me
. my GPA in college not so high like yours Billionaire… keep hope- make sure your essay is very good… do you know of anyone applying for engineering college in mechanical engineering department.

I am applying as an Econ major and will have all prereqs met from CCC. Im going to really make my essays shine.

Dont know of anyone applying to Cornell at all besides myself

I’d say they are rather different, but it really depends on what you want to say in each one.

It’s usually the faculty of the department.

If you are applying for junior transfer, they are going to look into your grades from 2 years in college, recommendation letters, ECs, or test scores more than your high school grades.
