Official Cornell Transfer 2011

I read from last year’s transfer thread that Hotel admin majors won’t know until after school’s over. So May is most likely.

oh really? that late!!! they began review my application two weeks ago…
cross finger for everyone and for myself!

Accepted to HumEc :smiley:
It was a normal small envelope so I was depressed when I saw it and really didn’t want to open it but I’m glad I did. Good luck to the rest of you!
And I know someone is going to ask so… 2190/2400, 4.29 hs, 4.0 state college, and I was waitlisted freshmen year to the college of architecture.

congrats!
i thought it would be like a big fat envelope! so I was praying for that big envelope every day!
havent heard anyone getting accepted into Hotel Management School yet, right?

@DoReMi

Congrats!!! its good to know that Cornell uses a small envelope even for the admitted applicants!! btw is there any change on your application status from the self service website? does it still look same?

Congrats! I’d be lying if I told you I wasn’t jealous, but I promise you that I’m honestly happy that someone on CC got an acceptance a week into April! Let the rolling continue!

@bonnechance

I was curious about that so I checked but there wasn’t any difference. It still says that “your application has been forwarded to the admissions staff for review”.

@DoReMi, thanks for checking the website :slight_smile: well…then i just need to wait until I hear from CALS

hmm…btw it seems like ILR started notifying students by phone calls and HumEc is actually sending out a letter… wondering how CALS gonna notify us. No one gets an email or something?

@bonnechance: I’m waiting on CALS too… They’ll probably notify us through mail. I haven’t heard or seen otherwise. Maybe email? But I doubt it.

I applied to ILR school, and I have some questions,

Is the interviewer the adcom who reviews my application? Many poeple were interviewed by Ian, but my interviewer was woman. I screwed up the interview so I hope not she makes my admission decision.

And to people who are admitted to ILR,
Have you taken any labor or industry related courses? I am attending a local community college so there wasn’t any courses related to ILR major. I just followed the business curriculum, and I am earning my Associates in May. I have 2 year of work experience in leadership position and also owned my own business. My interest in social labor was initiated from these experieces and I tried to show them in my essay. I think I have a strong connection to ILR but I am worried that what I have learned in college is not really related to labor studies.

Ya I don’t think my interview went to well either…but anyway I just spoke to admissions at ilr and they said the only people who got fone calls were the guaranteed transfers…clearly not but either way she said very few apps have been really reviewed so I’m not gnna freek out just yet…

@skim319: It could be. I know Mr. Schachner conducts some interviews and it is reasonable to assume he is a member of the admission committee. I was interviewed by Ms. Carla Crooker and I’m not sure if she’s an adcom or not.

As for classes, by the time I applied, I had taken all of the ILR recommended curriculum except for one class, which I am taking now.

I had an interview with him, and I screwed it up badly too lol. Well he is the associate director of undergraduate admission (ILR), so yes, he is def a member of admission committee.

what do you all mean by “screwed up the interview” for ilr? how badly could it have gone? didnt they just ask you basic questions about why you want to attend ilr and about your current school situation?

i dont think i screwed it up so bad…it was very short only 20 min… but i was an idiot because i love ilr and the specific curriculum but i didnt really talk about ilr too much and i didnt no stuff about the majors… it just seemed that i didnt do my research on the school and i didnt really look into it… which i think plays a huge roll… since they are very big on fit… although i do no which program i want to study in ilr…

thanks eyethink

What is ILR recommended curriculum?
I know that they generally require “two courses in English Composition, one course each in macroeconomics and microeconomics, one science course, an American history course, and your next appropriate level math course.” But I wasn’t able to find specific requirement courses. I completed 63 credits including English I, II / Princ of Macro, Micro / Biology I,II / US history I (to Civil war) / Calculus I.

And I was also inverviewed by Ms. Carla Crooker. I think the interview went badly because 1. language barrior and 2. my stupid answer to her question “What is your favorite course this semester, and why?” I expected several questions such as why ilr, or why transfer and prepared for them. Her question was unexpected to me so I was embarrassed. My answer was microeconomics cuz I have been interested in economics since my childhood lol. I chose economics because I thought it is the closest subject to ILR. But now, I realized that I have to be always honest.

ya so out of those ilr courses that they recommend, i only took english 1… that cant be to good…

@skim: To answer your question…

According to the Recommendations For Students Planning To Transfer:

Two courses in English –>I took one and am currently taking the second one.

Microeconomics
-----------------------> Took both in one semester.

Macroeconomics

Statistics and Probabilities –> Took it last semester.

Three Liberal Arts Courses: One for each of the following distribution requirements.

Science and Technology –> I took an environmental studies course, which comprised of understanding everything from the reason for the extinction of tigers to how photovoltaic cells work. I throughly enjoyed this course.

Cultural Perspectives –> To fulfill this course, I took an introduction to Islam course. I learned a lot. I’m proud to say that in a class of comprised of 99% Muslim, me, the Christian kid got the highest grade. I give my Muslim friends a hard time about that. :-)

Western Intellectual Tradition –> I took a bunch of classes that could have potentially filled this.

Like I’ve said in previous posts, Cornell has a special place in my heart and so I geared my two years at community college in pursuit of getting in. I was blessed and it worked out.

Thanks for your reply eyethink

I think I fulfill all the requirements you listed, except the 6th one. I took US history I and survey of US literature I. I am an international student from one of the far east countries, so I felt I need to study American culture. I am wondering how ILR will think about this, because to me, american culture is new.

Btw, where did you get this list?

Wow, my application just got forward for review today according to the online status check, I hope is not too late.
