that's some HS u go to scribbler...
our sal last yr got rejected. only our val made it...out of a total of ~6 kids?

My school only has a few apply every year, I'm the only ED this year I believe... and the last one to get accepted to Wharton (not sure about any other Penn schol) was like 6 years ago.

i have four ppl that applied early from my school. one got in for swimming already. is it true that colleges take into consideration how many ppl from one school apply, and compare them against eachother to ultimately eliminate some? i'm asking because the other two ppl are on the same academic level as me.

I've heard that they don't typically take more than 1-2 from a school, but I'm not completely sure on that.

Oh and czy, did the swimming guy get in on scholarship? I've been down to the pool and spoken with the coaches, swam with the team, etc. and was hoping to possibly walk-on to the swim team. Sounds like they're already building up a squad, not including me! Haha...

I know that Penn doesn't seem to have as much of a quota, neither does Yale. 4 years ago 13 total applied to Penn from my school, 7 got in, since then (accepted/applied): 2/6, 2/7, 3/6. Two years ago 5 people got into Yale at another school similar to mine.

And my friend who goes to Yale (he also got into Harvard, and other places can't remember) said that even though you go to the same school, you don't compete with your classmate directly. It'll be more of a regional thing, rather than comparisons within schools.

Well then I wish I lived in Kentucky.

Nope, not near Philly. People like applying to Ivies, though. (Last year 100 people applied to Harvard--not kidding--20 got in. One friend chose Huntsman over Harvard though).
It possibly also helps that as boarding, the people accepted are from all over. So it is not like they accept 18 people from one tiny town, but from all over the US and abroad.

Wow your school sounds like a crazy ivy feeder. 20 to Harvard, 18 to Penn.

Yeah...well, it used to be a true Harvard feeder. Maybe, 30, 40 years before, like 50 people went to Harvard every year or something. Not quite sure.
...
Ok, well, make that 75 in 1952 ahaha...the article I'm linking (from the Harvard Crimson) is absolutely hilarious.

Unfortunately it's not that easy to get into college anymore (too bad).

scribbler, now that we know the school, hardly a surprise.
The person that got accepted was probably through Questbridge. This is a special program that matches talented low income students to participating colleges. It works on a matching program and allows the student to match with approx 7 schools ED. They get notified on Dec 1 so everything gets sorted out and the schools know who is coming.
Good Luck to everyone!
