Official December SAT I Forum

Can anyone remember what the question was? :) I remember choosing the one with remonstrance...

i got 52 too because it's the only one that is divisible by 4

I'm pretty sure the marble question was 8.

I thought SC was hard as hell. I had CR experimental and I was hoping to God that it was the real section..but it wasn't.

Wrongheaded/chicanery was correct. The other choice that I struggled with was misguided/remonstrance.

What did regular mean in the Puerto Rico passage? What do "new fashions" represent?

Yeah, for the gridins, I had a 6, 8, 9 consecutively in the last row. Made me queasy cause that rarely happens.

Man i must have really misread the marbe one. He took 3 red, 4 the other color. Question was how many does he need to take red so of the ones he took red is greater then the other color. I thought it was 2 because then he would have 5 red and 4 of the other one? damn... thought it was simple... must have misread...

Math wrong so far - 3

And there was a pattern too.

3x3 square had 8
4x4 square had 12
5x5 square had 16
+4+4

The only multiple of 4 was 52

I had a lot of trouble with the critical reading. I can remember several things specifically right now they're all critical reading and they might not be in order.

sentence completion: some magazine called the "Essence" did thye enjoy PREEMINENCE?

The Puerto Rican girl's impression of New York: was it MYSTERIOUS AND UNCERTAIN?

THe grandparents telling the PUerto rican girl abotu the golden streets: was that implying that she had too high expectations?

The word "regular" in context (in the Puerto Rican passage) which described how the New York was two-dimensional, did that mean UNVARYING

In the Venus passage, for the hypothesis that Venus was evolving into a life planet like Earth, what could NOT be true: was it that the ATMOSPHERE WAS COMPLETELY OF CARBON DIOXIDE?

The Canoe passage: was the use of the word "heavens" IRONIC?

Is Alaska characterized as IMMENSE?

Was the guy CONTEMPTUOUS of the real estate people?

The whole thing with the map stopping when the guy's hand stops tracing the river, did that serve to NOTE AN IMPRESSION?

In that same part, when the streams and silence is described as "hanging", in context, did that mean UNFINISHED?

Is Bobby using DRY HUMOR?

In the comic book passage, the author of passage 2 when he uses the world "compromised" in context (said junk is the basest and most compromsed level of entertainment or osmething like that), does compromised mean DEGRADED?

When the author of passage two uses that reallly obscure word in quotes that has to do with deifying the golden era of comics, why did he use the quotes? Was it to SET OFF A SPECIALIZED TERM?

About the "latter" which was the educational junk, is the author indicating that it was a FOOLISH IMITATION or was it an ILL-CONCEIVED FAILURE? (I put foolish imitation)

Thanks a lot guys. Clearly with this level of uncertainty, I shouldn't expect such a great score on my critical reading, but that also depends on what you guys got on these questions.

The question with chicanery had to do with SETI stuff... and they used chicanery on the data or something like that. It definitely wasn't remonstrance.

i was pretty sure it was 0 because it was asking when red is greater than green not when green is greater than red... i think.

The question was:

Critics say SETI is , even foolish. They say SETI is _ with scientific data.

Or something to that effect.

"I put angry and fearful. The passage didn't support that she was "defeated" and giving up. It said that she didn't know what to expect, which is what fear is."

but fear and anger is kinda too strong to describe her feelings... it was more of disappointment

new fashions was like the example of her old identity being lost
or was it the one with the same rules didnt apply?

i def. remember answering one with the same rules didnt apply.

new fashions means empheral which means "short-lived"... got it wrong and went home and looked the word up. its stupid cause they used the word in the hispanic passage to descibe the rain drops and if you dont know what it means you would think it means somethign with how they look... damn

i put that

not sure what i put

yes

yes

yes

yes

i put undeveloped

yes

yes

i think it was suspended

yes

degraded

13.yes

i put failure
I dont think its fearful and uncertain because if says that she already knew the troubles that were going to come.
Knowing the troubles makes you fearful and uncertain about the future.

She certainly wasn't feeling defeated. She was just troubled.

But anyway, this is another confusing CR question.

new fashion one was ephemeral

to bh1988:
1. same answer
2. don't remember
3. same answer
4. put customary (but very unsure about this...)
5. same answer
6. same answer
7. undeveloped
8. same answer
9. same answer
10. suspended (?)
11. same answer
12. same answer
13. same answer
14. ill conceived failure, but unsure

i agree with namkim except 10,12,14

pretty sure it was foolish imitations
