I sent an email to my counselor just giving her an update on a few awards and programs I have been nominated for/received and accepted to. Do you think this could help, or just make me sound desperate? Ahh my friend who got into Notre Dame got into UMich too and was like “ehh whatever” and inside I’m DYING because I’ve wanted to be a wolverine forever! Ahhhhh this is lightweight ruining my winter break!

@carolinemichelle sounding desperate is better than sounding indifferent, right? i personally think that colleges want to see students who are genuinely interested in attending, and even if you do come off as desperate they’ll at least know how much you want to attend the school.

and i agree with @joverla. standardized tests don’t necessarily show how intelligent someone is, but how good they are at taking a standardized test. if you continually take the test over and over again, you’ll eventually get a feel of how the questions are like and how the test is structured.

@rjkofnovi on the contrary, UM IS my dream school, and UChicago was a COMPLETE reach. Everyone at my school got in with either a 28 ACT or a 35 ACT, and here i’m sitting with a 33. All my other credentials are great. I’m good enough for UM, but not good enough for most of the better schools. I didn’t really want to attend UChicago until i actually got in there. If you couldn’t tell by my word choice, i was extremely upset in my post, and i exaggerated when i said UChicago was 10 times better.

Deffered with a 31 ACT and 3.6 GPA but 7th semester GPA was 4.529! Best political experience in the state of Illinois (youngest Obama For America Community Organizer in the state of Illinois, maybe even the country as well as internships with State Senate, Congressional, U.S. Senate, and Gubernatorial campaigns).

@bsla11 great job on getting a 4.5! I’m surprised you got deferred with a 3.6, 31 ACT and all of those ecs.

I was slightly taken back when I received my deferral. A large amount of people from my high school applied EA and were all admitted, whom of which i have higher credentials than in most areas. However, they were all much more passionate about the school before I knew I really wanted to go here. I think my indifference was seen in my essays but I am hoping for the best!

Son was deferred, letter 3.

I think they’re just taking the most competitive applicants first, I’m really hoping for an acceptance by April! They accept a lot of deferred students based on my research so I’m pretty “whatever” about this. Besides, they just received my senior grades which were the best I’ve ever had (98.9/100) so I’m hoping that has a bearing on their decision. Good luck everyone!

does anyone know the percent of deferred applicants that are deferred, or why RD applicants were deferred?

Deferred Letter 1 to College of Engineering OOS. Frankly, I thought that I would have been an easy reject, so this is a bit unexpected. Do they just not reject people until the latest date possible? But I digress…30 ACT, ~ 4.08 weighted 3.74 uw (had a good 7th semester so it was 3.86 uw and ~ 4.17 weighted). I don’t really plan on being accepted but we’ll see. Good luck to everyone who was deferred :)
