I had sent an email just confirming that some extra information I sent was recieved or if it was still on the way. She thanked me, told me that my application was in order and said that she was pleased with my continued interest in UMich. Sounds a bit generic, but hey…

For those of you wondering how they’ve been releasing decisions, it’s my understanding that the first to hear are the ones with obvious decisions. Like the people who heard back much earlier were either at the top of the applicant pool or bottom, making it an easy decision for UMich. So the last to hear are those in the middle, which is the majority of people who got deferred. Go us!

Also, last year the acceptances came first in a wave, then waitlists and deferrals arrived later into the weekend.

Sportsmom: does that mean admits will hear first? Also, will we really have to wait until mid-April? I thought most people would hear by April 1st. I don’t know how long I can continue with this.

abjsaha (and anyone else trying to check their status in the early morning), Wolverine Access goes down for everyone between 4am ET and 6am ET during the work week. On Saturday nights, it goes down at 11pm. It doesn’t reflect the status of your application at all.

Yeah I’m going insane. :(

Soccerqueen, last year the acceptances heard first, then waitlists and rejections, but who know if they will do it the same way this year. And it was regional in batches, so certain parts of the country heard before others. Last year, Michigan said the same thing - early April, and as I said, my son got his acceptance April 5th. That seem to be the last big wave of decisions.

Sportsmom: Is there anything your son did in particular that may have helped convince the admissions team?

csinger95: I feel pretty insane too. Waiting for my decision is making me feel really depressed.

Son was fortunate to have several of his greatest achievements during his senior year (several writing awards at the state and national level, state and national sports championships, civic awards) and he earned a 4.0+ GPA junior and senior years. His cum GPA was a 3.79 - he didn’t do as well freshman and soph year, but they liked the upward trend. He emailed updates all along to his admissions rep and she always said they would be added to his file. Son had quite a strong resume so ultimately they must have liked what they saw. He is loving Michigan, even though they made him wait so long for his acceptance. :)

Funny but true story about the waiting…son had a meltdown at Michigan before finals in December - He’s usually very low key and easy going but finals always stress him out. In his phone rant, he listed all the things about Michigan that were annoying him (he loves it and would never seriously consider leaving) and he brought up about how Michigan made him wait from October all the way until April for his acceptance - he was still ticked off about it!

My son did much the same and had an upward trend. He visited, sent updates and continued to demonstrate his love, and was ultimately rejected. Michigan was his first choice and he made that very clear (in person and in writing)- he had a Common App Application with all of the essays and letters written especially for U of M and a second Application for all other schools. He was a 3rd generation legacy. None of that helped. I think if you make it clear Michigan is your first choice and you will accept if admitted that is the best you can do. I would send them updates with any awards or other pertinent updates.

Getting into Michigan is far from a science, don’t try to figure it out. As far as I can tell it is far from logical, or the logic escapes me. My son had only one school he wanted to attend and demonstrating that did not make a difference initially but did as a transfer student.

He applied to transfer to Michigan before even attending classes as his backup school (August timeframe for Winter term) and was accepted for the Spring Term.

Beechwood, congrats to your son for persevering and getting accepted as a transfer student! That is always an option for students not accepted this year. College admissions are a crap shoot…while son was accepted to Michigan, and he loves it, he was rejected by his top choice, an Ivy.

Sportsmom and Beechw00d: I submitted two updates by email so far. Is it ok to send more? Also, would calling help at all? Beechw00d, you said that it did not help your son.

Hey, has anyone heard from the school of Kinesiology??

Hey, y’all–

I’m a senior who qualified for EA on October 23rd. 29 ACT, 3.96 gpa, consistent involvement in community service and such. I’ve heard that the LSA applicants typically hear around 3/27, is this true? And if not, am I taking so long to hear because I’m under-qualified and probably getting denied? (A lot of people I’ve talked to said I should’ve gotten in though…)

I’ve also taken 4 AP/Honors courses, and had to take two college-level courses over at Lansing Community College because of schedule complications (both 4.0s, though).

^Your stats are good and my guess would be you get accepted!!!

Your in-state??

@senna4ever

Thanks (: But here’s the icky part: I started high school here as a sophomore, and since I attended a high school before moving to Michigan, they counted me as out of state. And although they did send me an application for residency, U-M worded it as though it was necessary for tuition purposes, and I’m starting to think that’s why I was deferred in the first place. I never sent in that application until last week, and I still haven’t heard anything. So they still might think I’m out of state.

@user2727 I haven’t, I haven’t heard from ANYBODY who applied to Kinesiology. Kind of weird…
