^Nope. I’m not sure what will be going on with that.

I heard some people say we wouldn’t even hear back until after 02 Feb… that’s frustrating, but hopefully just speculation! :P

Last year the decisions started coming back Feb 10th.

My Dad just told me someone deferred got accepted recently. I have no other information on this other than that he heard it at work so take that with a huge grain of salt. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if some have been accepted.

I’m writing to provide encouragement to all of you who were deferred and are still waiting. Hang in there! Do not be discouraged by each wave of acceptances that will soon begin. If you aren’t accepted in the first wave, you still may be accepted later this spring. My son was deferred EA in December and waited until the end of March to learn of his acceptance. It seemed like the longest three months of waiting in history!

Try not to focus on every wave of acceptances that come out if you are not accepted right away. Until you get the final answer - acceptance, waitlist or rejection - you still have a chance. By the same token, you should try to focus on your other acceptances and feel excited about a couple of other colleges, just in case you don’t get into U of M. The acceptance rate at Michigan continues to decline, as pointed out on other threads, so it’s harder and harder to get in. Not every great student will be accepted - there just aren’t enough spots. Wishing you all the best and try to enjoy senior year while you can!

Thank you so much, SportsMom42! :D

You’re very welcome!

I know a couple of people who got deferred EA (for LSA) who got accepted on Friday…looks like decisions are coming out slowly.

Ooooh… the process has begun. Let’s all hope for the best. I signed up for LSA and am instate. I wonder if that gives me a higher chance for an earlier decision. I won’t get my hopes up though. :P

As I recall last year a whole bunch of decisions came out about a week or so into February, so yes, a lot of decisions will be coming soon if they follow that same pattern this year. After that decisions seemed to continue off and on without any real pattern until about March or so. My son was one of the many who were deferred initially and then accepted.

Those that got accepted this year already, did they already have their first semester grades sent in?
I’m slightly worried because my cumulative has been around 3.76 and this semester, I got 3.6 which is a downward trend from past semesters. Do you think it’ll affect their decision a lot? I told them about 2 extra achievements and sent a letter of rec (that highlighted the leadership aspect of myself that the other letters may have not).

My school doesn’t send transcripts until next Friday… I had a 4.0 before this semester and got a 4.42 this final semester… How long do you think it will take for me to hear back??

Hi lionsandtigers,

were the people who got in last Friday in state kids? do you know what their stats/Ecs are? Looks like there are 2 posts referring already to deferred kids who are getting in, and the historical range of possible dates seems to be Feb 2 - Feb 15; has anyone contacted their regional officer for confirmation of a date yet?

thanks a lot

Also, we have to take into account which particular schools those kids supposedly got into. Acceptance dates for CoE, LSA, etc might be totally different. :P

Also, I have a brief question: my transcript for my first Trimester grades are available, but I’m not incredibly happy with them. Got 3 As, yes, but one B+ in Chemistry and one B- in German. However, I was forced to miss a lot of German and also just got back into it after missing a year of Foreign Language. Would there be any way to explain the circumstances? I read somewhere here that when they were recalculating the grades, the B+ and B- would both just be looked at as “Bs” anyways, with no differentiation. Is that true? Is it worth sending in the grades at all? I’m just so confused… :(

Sapharodon, you should ask your counselor at school about this. You and I have chatted on other threads. My son was deferred last year and Michigan asked for his first semester grades, which was great for him because he earned a 4.0+, and he was accepted. Son’s high school automatically sends first semester grades out to every college you apply to, so good or bad, the grades go out. You should check with your school to see if your school does this or not. Regarding recalculating GPAs, we’ve heard the same thing, but interestingly, Michigan uses a A+,A, A- grading scale within the University, as do most colleges, so they do not give an A- the same GPA weight as an A for U of M students.

If Michigan didn’t ask for your first semester grades, and in your case, your grades probably won’t hurt or help you, I’d be inclined not to send them. I would focus on sending admissions any legitimate, significant accomplishments you have during senior year. Hope this helps.

Hi guys!! How did those students hear back? Did they log into wolverine access? UM asked for my first semester grades, and I got a 4.2…so I’m hoping for the best. Unfortunately, my ACT score isn’t exactly the best of my ability…25. What should I do? I’m planning to contact my admissions counselor to show continued interest and ask what needs to be stronger in my application.

Csinger95, my son checked Wolverine Access every day from December, when he was deferred, through the end of March, when he finally saw his admissions decision in Wolverine Access late on a Friday night. When he clicked on it, the first word was “Congratulations!” and we literally did a happy dance, it was so exciting!

His ACT was a 30, though, so if you are OOS, your ACT may be too low. If your instate, you may be okay.

That’s so exciting!! Yeah, I know my ACT is a tad low for U of M, I was just hoping my other qualities would outweigh it. So we’ll see!

Good luck and wishing you the best, csinger95!

It’s different for everyone as for when people hear back. My son was deferred in early February (he applied Regular Decision), and decided to e-mail his Admissions Counselor letting her know of his continued interest. She replied and told him he was a strong candidate and they’d take another look at his application. That was on a Friday. The following Monday he got his e-mail that he was accepted. He was very fortunate in that he didn’t have to wait long.

Politely contacting your counselor and letting them know of your interest and also sending along anything that you can add to your file (grades, achievements, awards, etc.) sounds like the way to go.
