Well, I was a valdictorian, but my graduating class had only 6 people!! :)

The longer the battle, the sweeter the victory.

Still waiting for Georgetown's acceptance and hopeful for it this April.

I swear, I could be like a Hoya Pep Squad member or something.

Oh man, G-town loves to pad their stats. They know they aren't up there with Princeton/Harvard/Yale, yet on their website they proudly display the percentage acceptance rates for the valedvictorian and seluditorian (sp?)

valedictorian and salutatorian

but some people with amazing stats got deferred, so I don't necessarily believe that.

and yeah, tlaktan! pull out the megaphone!

Decision: Accepted

Stats:
SAT: 1420 (1490 now after December score)
SAT IIs: 800, 760, 740
GPA: 4.0 uw
Rank: 2/150
Subjective:
Essays: very good, but not great
Teacher Recs: excellent
Counselor Rec: excellent
Hook (if any): own a tech start-up, started NGO, National Scholarship, Sports
Location/Person:
State or Country: India
School Type: public
Ethnicity: Indian
Gender: male
Other Factors:
Dont know.
General Comments: None

congrats, adides!

Thanks a lot redr002. Congratulations to your daughter and to you as well.

BTW - Other factors: I put none, but I think that the biggest thing that might have helped me is the NGO that I had started. It is called 'Center for Secular India' and Gtown, although a Jesuit school is very very secular...

Is there an increased chance of getting in for those who apply EA or do they not take that into consideration?

Well, I think that applying EA shows more of an interest in Georgetown, so they probably do take that into consideration.

Decision: Deferred...for some reason
Stats:
SAT: 800 math, 670 verbal
SAT IIs: I did not take them yet
GPA: 3.7 unweighted, our school unfortunately doesn't weight
Rank: 37/505, I am in all AP or Honors classes.

Subjective:
Essays: excellent-I wrote about my tendencies and how they make me who I am - I know it sounds cliche, but it came out nicely
Teacher Recs: The best, one teacher named me in the the top 1% out of all the kids he has had in 33 years of teaching
Counselor Rec: excellent-My mom works with his wife.
Hook (if any): EVERYTHING. I am President of 5 school clubs, founder of two (including a political activism club), had a letter or recommendation from a U.S. Congressman, am the first non-congressman in history to run Model Congress ( congress simulation for 26 area schools), write for the local newspaper (not the school one, but the paper that circulates in my county), work on political campaigns (including Kerry and our governor), volunteer over the summer to be a counselor for sexually/physically abused children ages 8-11, and a host of other activites. Too many activities to name, but those are some of the best.

Location/Person:
State or Country: Pennsylvania
School Type: Public, but THE best and most competitive in the state - my rank would be in the single digits at any other school. We have 3 kids going to UPenn, 3 to Cornell, 2 to Brown, 2 to Columbia, 1 to Yale, 2 to MIT, 1 to Princeton so it is clearly competitive.
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: male
Other Factors:
Extremely involved in politics, I spent most of my summer in D.C. including a week on Georgetown's campus for a political program.

My comments: Not to sound over-confident, but I did expect to get in. All of my teachers, friends, and neighbors were shocked to hear that I was deferred. If someone could please give me some insight as to why I did not, that would be wonderful. I am having a tough time with this news, as I am sure the other deferrees are as well. Congrats to those accepted - you all obviously deserve it.

I would think that your lack of SAT IIs probably hindered your admission.

Which school did you apply to?

Pitcher, I am sorry about your deferral. I'm sure it is tough. If I were to guess, I'd say your rank is about the only that hurt you. Georgetown is VERY big on rank. You GPA at 3.7 uw is good, but not great, though your coursework with all aps and honors helps you. Your ECs are amazing, as well as the rest of your stats. Keep your spirits up - there is still the regular round, as well as many other opportunities for you. You've got a lot to offer a college.

i agree on the rank. my rank was low for Gtown as well (22/400) and I was deferred.

out of curiousity, why have you not taken SAT IIs?

Calidan, SATIIs are not considered at all for EA, so I don't think that factored in their decision at all.

Thank you both for your kind words. I did not take SAT 2's as they told me that they were not required for admission, just placement. I applied to Georgetown College. If this does not work out, then I'm off to GW Honors! Is there anything I can do to better my chances for RD?

Damn my competitive school! I am still in the top 7% or so. I will be taking SAT 2's soon.

send a letter expressing interest, have your counselor call your regional rep to find out specifics, add a rec or essay?

by the way, I am almost positive that GW Honors requires 3 SAT IIs...I couldn't apply because I hadn't taken a math/sci one...

If you do well on your SAT IIs, you will have an excellent shot at RD. I really do believe that they deferred you so that they could see what kind of scores you will receive on your IIs.

I'll be taking Math 2C, Writing, French w/ listening, AP US so I should be fine for GWH. Thanks for the advice.

You know that French with Listening is only offered in November? So you'll probably just have to take French Reading. Sorry. (It's easier anyway. Believe me.)

What's GWH?
