Wow…that’s awesome news applesnbannanas, Mari249, PiyushC, and gladiatorbird!!! Congratulations :)

I must confess I’m a little shocked by this response to my daughter from Chapman. Another area school has already awarded her a $40,000 scholarship, and she has at least one early admission already from a more selective school.

ACT 28 - don’t remember SATs but comparable
GPA 3.89 uw/4.29 w
APs - Psych, English, Art History, Am Gov, lots of honors classes at academically rigorous high school

overseas volunteer work
deep and broad experience in theater (area of interest)
Essays: very good, wonderful writer
Recs: didn’t read but everybody loves her, great work ethic and sweet

Location/Person:
State or Country: Los Angeles area
School Type: Top rated public high school
Ethnicity: WASP Gender: Female

Other Factors: drama awards, community theater, community volunteer work

What did she do wrong, I wonder? I read the essay, and since I’m a writer by trade, I KNOW it was excellent. Confused. ??

Anyone else had trouble activating their chapman university network account? DD’s won’t work even with the correct user name and password sent by Chapman. And of course, there’s no calling them over the long weekend. Very frustrating! (Although I suppose she’d only see that “decision mailed” message anyhow…

I think their webadvisor undergoes weekly servicing on Sundays…seem to recall reading that somewhere.

Westcoastmom: that does seem surprising. :(

Westcoastmom: I am very surprised as well. Is your Daughter going to contact admissions to find out what she can do to enhance her app and why she was deferrred? I would bet she will be admitted in regular dec. with scholarship $$. Sounds like she has an incredible resume! I will look forward to your update on what happens next.

Congratulations to all of you…my S is STILL waiting to get his in the mail! This is AGONY!

westcoastmom, was your D trying for the theater program at Chapman? My only thought is that maybe that’s one of the most crowded programs, and applicants are heavily female? My S has been accepted at another school that many considered to be a reach for him, and he was give a $20K merit scholarship there, too. I was a little surprised he even got in. But my hunch is that the major to which he applied was NOT one of the really popular ones at that particular school, which worked in his favor.

Deferred does not mean she didn’t get in, remember, so don’t give up hope.

^^^Good points, SJR.
Also, I was thinking of you and your son this morning. Fingers crossed that your good news comes today.

I talked to the admission office a couple days ago and they said that decision “mailed” on webadvisor means that the decision has been printed out and soon will be mailed once it is signed and sealed. All decisions were officially announced to have been said last Wednesday, January 11th. So it might be a couple more days before you get the decision, though of course it depends how far away you live as well. Good luck to your son! Hope it did/or will turn out well!

I’ve been waiting looking outside my door for the mail truck for 4 hours straight. And it’s still not here! I’m freaking out! I can’t wait! I’m so nervous. Fingers Crossed!

[/ul]**Other Factors, hook?: ** No hook, except I was accepted into the conservatory before I was admitted (possible hook due to staff?)
**General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to Chapman…?:
**No merit-aid offered (didn’t expect it because of my low GPA - I wish I worked harder), but their financial aid is very generous, so I’m hoping that part of that is made up for.
Chapman is my FIRST choice; I’ve been dreaming about going to Chapman since the end of my sophomore year. However, if I can’t afford it financially, I’ll be going to Fullerton (already accepted). I might try to transfer in (with more scholarhship, and revenue coming in from online business - that’s another story).

Edit: Congratulations SJR!! Hope everything goes well for you!! :)
