** Subjective: ** [ul]
[] Essays: I feel I wrote a good-but-not-exceptional Common App essay on how my first year of football (first year in any organized sport) tested my character and ended up forging my will to succeed/stubbornness in the face of adversity.
[] Teacher Recs: Came from two of my favorite, best-educated and best-spoken teachers. I didn’t read them, as I signed the FERPA waiver, but I have every confidence that they wrote great letters.
[] Counselor Rec: My counselor for the past three years moved on to a job in Chicago over the summer; I met the new guy three times before he wrote me a letter, but he was very nice and seemed impressed by the getting-to-know-you interview . He was also very proactive in seeking input from my teachers to really understand who each and every one of his students was.
[] Extracurricular highlights: Theater (numerous leads and awards), choir (new to it this year, but I made Regional and All-State as a second tenor), Boy Scouts (don’t have my Eagle, but I’m a Life Scout and I accrued a boatload of community service), football (JV quarterback), Academic Team (two-time co-MVP). Plus a few smaller and more unique ones.

[] Gender: Male

** Other Factors/Hook? **
Legacy-- my sister is Class of '14 at Chapman, and is heavily involved in campus life as an officer of her sorority, an RA, etc.
First-Generation College Student-- My dad has an associate’s, my mom is an RN, but doesn’t have a degree.
My audition-- Guess it was good enough!

** Comments/Thoughts **
I love the school, but I only got the Dean’s Scholarship. I know, it’s hard to say “only” when you’re getting $15K a year, but Chapman is bloody EXPENSIVE! I expect to pick up a little more down the road via the FAFSA, perhaps a legacy or talent scholarship as well. Bottom line: If we can reasonably afford it (my dad is eighteen months out of work) I will almost certainly be attending. :)
