** Subjective: ** [ul]
[] Essays: I feel I wrote a good-but-not-exceptional Common App essay on how my first year of football (first year in any organized sport) tested my character and ended up forging my will to succeed/stubbornness in the face of adversity.
[] Teacher Recs: Came from two of my favorite, best-educated and best-spoken teachers. I didn’t read them, as I signed the FERPA waiver, but I have every confidence that they wrote great letters.
[] Counselor Rec: My counselor for the past three years moved on to a job in Chicago over the summer; I met the new guy three times before he wrote me a letter, but he was very nice and seemed impressed by the getting-to-know-you interview . He was also very proactive in seeking input from my teachers to really understand who each and every one of his students was.
[] Extracurricular highlights: Theater (numerous leads and awards), choir (new to it this year, but I made Regional and All-State as a second tenor), Boy Scouts (don’t have my Eagle, but I’m a Life Scout and I accrued a boatload of community service), football (JV quarterback), Academic Team (two-time co-MVP). Plus a few smaller and more unique ones.
[/ul]

** Location/Person: ** [ul]
[] State or Country: San Diego, California, good old US of A
[] School Type: Public; incidentally, ranked Silver by US News & World Report, the only San Diego public high school to receive such recognition.
[] Ethnicity: Pan-European (or White, if you prefer)
[] Gender: Male
[/ul]

** Other Factors/Hook? **
Legacy-- my sister is Class of '14 at Chapman, and is heavily involved in campus life as an officer of her sorority, an RA, etc.
First-Generation College Student-- My dad has an associate’s, my mom is an RN, but doesn’t have a degree.
My audition-- Guess it was good enough!

** Comments/Thoughts **
I love the school, but I only got the Dean’s Scholarship. I know, it’s hard to say “only” when you’re getting $15K a year, but Chapman is bloody EXPENSIVE! I expect to pick up a little more down the road via the FAFSA, perhaps a legacy or talent scholarship as well. Bottom line: If we can reasonably afford it (my dad is eighteen months out of work) I will almost certainly be attending. :)

Yay to everyone who was accepted!!!

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to Chapman…?: One of my top two choices . . . it’s all about the finances though.

I got a letter today (dated 1/20/12) that says that they are placing me into the regular application pool for admission. They asked that I provide my updated transcript including my grades from fall semester as soon as possible. Anyone have any idean what this means? Is it bad that I didn’t get the early admission?

SoCAGuy, Have you checked your Web Advisor to see if anything is missing? Sounds like they’re still waiting for your senior year first semester transcript. Check with your HS counselor to see if it was sent. Private schools usually require three transcripts from a student, one in the beginning of the application process, one during the senior mid-year process, and the final one in the summer, after you have completed or graduated.

According to the webadvisor, they have everything. We haven’t even finished our first semester yet - actually we’re in finals now for first semester. I’ll have it sent as soon as it’s available, but I’ve got a 3.98 GPA.

SoCAGuy, It means your application was deferred. They want to look at your Fall grades before they make a decision. Your decision will now come with the regular admission candidates. make sure your mid-year transcript andd any other updates are provided to the admissions office as soon as possible.

I GOT IN!!! i visited the campus this weekend and it was so amazing  CAN’T WAIT!!!

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to Chapman…?: Definitely going!

bigredspunkei, did your Webadvisor change to “Decision Mailed” on 1/25?

My student’s webadvisor said that he was rolled to the regular applicant pool when we looked on 1/15. He applied early action and did an acting audition. Then we called the admissions office as we were confused because they said they didn’t post decisions on the web and were actually adament about it. They said it meant they were waiting for more information from the theatre department. Later we received a letter saying he was deferred. Does this sound right or should we follow up?
