You mean people from your school apply and only a few get in?
See it’s weird because like, in Jersey, no one knows about Rice. I think that gives us Jersey appliers an advantage, or at least that’s what I was told/seem to be finding throughout my research.

yes you are very lucky your from jeresey!! it gives you geographic diversity…i think last year 64 people applied from my school and 5 got in! its crazy especially since i come from a comptetive school. oh well hopefully we both get in!

That’s weird that no knows Rice at your school in Jersey. I’m from Virginia and a ton of people know about Rice. At least nobody I know is applying ED like me. :)

64!?!?!? I think it’s crazy that Rice is THE huge deal in Texas and yet it’s just not around where I am. The discrepancy is unusual, I think.

That’s because you on the East Coast, where Ivy League schools reign supreme.

Haha would you say that Rice is the “admission obsession” equivalent of putting the obsession of ALL the ivies together??

I’m not sure… I do know it is a HUGE DEAL in Texas though. I have met a lot of students from Texas, and they talk about how Rice is their dream school. There was an Explore Rice event for Houston area high school students only, and over 800 high school students from Houston alone showed up for it. Rice is a really awesome place though; it is just people are ignorant up north. If every top student across the country knew about the intellect of the students, the close-knit connection with professors, the quality of teaching, and the fun-loving nature of the students, Rice would definitely be as hard to get into as Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, and Yale.

i agree if rice was more well known up north it would be impossible to get in.
im taking comfort in the fact that the super smart students at my school are applying to ives early, and not rice!

just out of curiosity, how’s the ED acceptance rate for in-staters???

low i bet! ughh.

I’m assuming all you ED applicants have already submitted your application or are close to doing so. Good luck to y’all, and let me know if you have any questions about campus life along the way.

yupp sumbitted! i really want to get in…
so what did you guys end up putting in the box?

slik nik, I have a question. Ds did an overnight there and was in Weiss. He ddn’t really like what he called “motel” setup. Which dorms have the more tradtional layout with rooms off a hallway?

I put this picture in the box:

http://www.animaltalk.us/images/uploads/tiger-chimp-1465336i.jpg

It warms my heart. Therefore, it appeals to me!

Aww, that’s a really cute pic, Jersey.

Man, it feels so great to finally get that damn Rice ED app in…I was getting kind of paranoid and worked up over this one application when i have like 9 more to go!
Anyways, good luck to everyone! I hope we all have the opportunity to one day see each other on Rice’s campus!

yeah, I’m so relieved to finally be done with the Rice app. I haven’t even started any of my other apps yet. haha

The residential colleges (we don’t call them dorms at Rice) with the more traditional “dorm” layout include my residential college (Brown), Jones, Sid Richardson, Duncan, McMurtry, and Hanszen. Keep in mind that if your son matriculates at Rice, he will be randomly placed in a residential college for the next 4 years… if he really hates it, he can transfer to another residential college the following year. However, Wiess has the nicest rooms on campus though.

“Dorms” is quicker to type than “residential colleges.” ;)

He did say the room itself was gorgeous.

important note: martel is not a college. ;)
