Official ED Applicants 2014

westhamunited, that sounds perfect, minus the beach part. dannng. then again, the boston harbor isnt amazingly clean either so i guess i can deal…well okay that’s not relly a beach…

houston, burgundy, K, white

galveston does have crappy beaches but freeport is pretty nice.

oh and I for those of you who live in Houston…I have heard from many people that the people are extremely friendly and the weather is awesome. I apologize if this question sounds somewhat immature, but how is the excitement in Houston? Living just a few minutes away from NYC, I am completely in love with the city and know that there is no other city in the US that can be compared. I hope Houston is not just a bunch of a work-place buildings and garage parking lots. I am absolutely in love with all the excitement, flashy lights, diversity, and unique culture of NYC…will I fall in love with Houston as well?

The satanica thing was a joke. Im quite partial to blue

just one bengali? aw man. the are like 10 at my school. oh well, im sure there’ll be more at rice. or in houston in general

I have to agree

Southern hospitality is very prominent in Houston, it has all the perks of being the 4th largest city in the country by having the BEST assortment of restaurants, good museums, good sport teams, even though Galveston beaches aren’t the best…its still the ocean and Ill take it…basically you’ll always have something to do off-campus if Rice becomes too monotonous for you(which I cant see happening too often)

San Antonio, Green, S, a cornucopia of races but I picked Hispanic for my app.

houston has alot of excitment!! probaly not as much as ny but there are plenty of cool shops, resturants, events, and meuseums waiting to be discovered!!

Dixie, you can get both here. It probably wont be new york city, but downtown is pretty exciting. Also, montrose is a VERY cool neighborhood, its super interesting and weird, full of hippies and tattoo parlors. And the nieghborhood rice is in is a pretty quiet residential neighborhood, maybe 3 or 4 miles from montrose, and about 3 or 4 miles from downtown

westhamunited32: i was about to say…

pooty I PMed you

and Westham: yay! It’s official…Rice is the perfect school for me haha

btw, what’s the music scene like? music is a major reason why i applied to rice - i hope that houston is also vibrant in music

dixisilverjojo: i visit new york every summer, and i would have to say that houston can be just as much fun as new york can. While it’s not new york city, houston has this sort of characteristic charm about it that just makes it unique. It’s a major city, and yet it doesn’t necessarily feel as if it’s too big, if that makes any sense lol. like aufossil21 said, there are all sorts of fun you can have in houston, from fine arts museums to opera, to ballet and a pretty cool zoo. and there’s sooo much more. it’s lots of fun :)

honestly i may be from houston but im more from the outskirts…seriously…just on the other side of the rode where my neighborhood is located you are really in houston city limits…your still consider houston but if there was lets say a fire ban, it wouldn’t apply over there. weird but true. but anyways what im trying to say is i know almost as little about downtown than a lot of you out of state folks. granted ive been there several times but only business related junk…i dont live the most exciting life…:(

Oh my god dont get me started on the music scene. Two venues in particular, the meridian and warehouse live constantly feature local bands that are AWESOME. Also, we get every big tour that goes around because of the woodlands pavillion, and the toyota center. The music scene is seriously raw. Any kind of music. Any kind.

intensewaiter: that song was stuck in my head all week hahahaa.
dixie: i replied (:

westham: YESSSSS EXCELLENT

okay if i dont get into rice i think i might just self-destruct.

@lovetoswim
Houston has a decent music scene, the majority of which happens in downtown…which is only a few mins away from Rice. A lot of up-and-coming artists play at venues like Fitzgeralds and House of Blues, and both are fairly close to rice Houston also has a pretty big dance scene also.

tiffyt that sounds great!!

i know this is random but, is anyone here out of school for the holidays yet?
