Official ED Applicants 2014

i’m middle eastern too, well half middle eastern.

This is my first time to post.
My son graduated from Rice with a Bio/Chem degree this past May.
I just want to tell you that comparing and chancing stats is ridiculous. 4.5 yrs ago my son had good stats…Val of his class, near perfect GPA, strong tests, recs and extra curricular activities. 3 years ago my middle son applied to Rice with even better stats and he didn’t get accepted. Tonight we are waiting to find out if our youngest son will be accepted ED.
Keep in mind that the admissions people are looking for a well rounded class. They don’t want only the highest grades and scores, they want students who bring a wealth of diversity, life experiences, love of learning and more. If it was only about the scores and grades this whole process would make sense.

so all ya’ll from houston: tell me about the city! and what’s the culture like? my cousin who goes to UT told me everyone really friendly and society is generally laid-back. is it true? b/c that sounds awesome.

lovetoswim, i love houston. When i go to other cities, and come back to houston (or texas in general) i notice that people are just generally friendlier. People are more willing to start a polite conversation with a random person, or hold the door open for eachother. The weather may be too hot for some, but i like it alot. It is very spread out, and has a huge mixture of cultures, and every sports team you can imagine. Anything you want to do, you can do here. Except for find a clean beach, Galveston has to be the worst beach in america.

i know one girl in my school that’s bengali. does that count? hmm but yeah i would say that houston has it’s fair share of an ethnically diverse population. you can find all sorts of people here it’s pretty cool
