wow…accepted!!

congrats to everyone who got in, i can’t wait to see you guys next year!!
and to everyone who was denied, i know you’ll find a place you love even if it doesn’t seem like it now.

:eek:I know it doesn’t seem to make sense - since you are the perfect candidate (and you will find a terrific school - maybe Rice, maybe Stanford, Duke or somewhere else…) But, Rice is trying to build a DIVERSE CLASS of students, and, unfortunately, Rice parents tend to have smart upper-middle-class kids who then apply to Rice. It’s a numbers thing - Rice can’t take all the perfect legacy kids - and they know that Harvard, Yale, Duke, Williams, Stanford, Univ. of Chicago, etc. will love them…

Thanks, that makes me feel a little better, though I’m still very self conscious due to this. I really had my heart set on Rice :(

ACCEPTED!

One of two kids from my school in Corpus Christi, Texas actually (it’s about four hours from Houston). I think two kids got denied, and maybe another four or five were deferred.

I was definitely NOT expecting that. Wow. Congrats to everyone, and I am SOOOO excited to meet all of you!

P.S. Has anyone else been super jumpy and spastic? I seriously couldn’t concentrate on ANYTHING afterwards.

Congrats to all of you that got admission! I know you are all excited to be at Rice, but be sure to enjoy the last semester of high school (which I wish I could go back to).

To all those deferred/denied: I’m very sorry to hear that y’all weren’t accepted. Frankly, it is Rice’s loss, especially to those they denied from states that need more representation here, like Virginia and Illinois. However, you will end up at a great school, and there is still time to apply to one of Rice’s peer schools if you haven’t done so already. Best of luck to y’all, and everything will work out well in the end. Just don’t give up.

accepted - ill put up my stats later

Anyone here going to UT and a girl looking for a roommate?! :)

hey guys, did your acceptance letter come in the mail? or in a fedex envelope or w.e? who got it so far?

Mine came in through Express US Postal Mail

It contains the same info as you received through Esther and the email

Alright sounds good. it still didn’t come yet :(

I have another question…I thought that now that we’re accepted into a college, the rest of high school can be a little more laid back! but then i read this in the email:

“Personal misconduct and academic declines in your senior year are reasons to rescind your offer of admission”

what does that mean! i have to keep at these grades forever??? i cant relax?

ah…i thought about that…if slacking off for you means making C’s D’s and F’s, then you shouldn’t slack off…but if you can slack off and manage to still make A’s and B’s, then they won’t rescind your application, at least i don’t think.

Usually a uni will rescind your admission only if you fail classes or commit a serious felony.

So lay back, pass your classes and your good to go :)

I just received an email from my interviewer who told me that Rice received nearly 1000 applications (I think we have the actual number somewhere in this forum?) but they accepted less than 300. I think that’s more applications than in previous years with LESS acceptances - I wonder what that means…

The info session I went to at rice uni today said theyre were around 926 apps this year, an increase of about 150 from last year i think

Do you know if that stat about the ED acceptance rate going down is accurate, though?

It says (verbatim) "Mu

Also, keep in mind that nearly 1000 applicants is not 1000 applicants, so 30% of “nearly” 1000 is going to be less than 300.

SUJ: i made pretty much straight B’s second semester senior year and nothing happened. just don’t get c’s/d’s and don’t kill anyone and you should be fine :)

psch. i think C’s are fine, too. they will NOT rescind your application because of a C. (my opinion)
