@emersongarcia, thank you for your adviice. However, i am a international student, and thus dare not to apply for any finantial aid for all the 3 schools… So the tuition for me will be pretty much the same thing… I agree you with the intimate classes, but I’m just worried that the physics program in Emory might not be as good as those in Uva and U mich…

Guys, I’m so sorry to hear that you are thinking about not attending Emory because of the aid you’re receiving!

I don’t blame you, but all of us worked hard to get in! Wow, I really shouldn’t be complaining about my aid offer after hearing you guys talk about yours.

Does anyone know how to find out how much money they actually have to pay to go to Emory? For example, on the financial aid award letter it says the estimated financial aid budget is 59,908 but I don’t think you actually have to pay that much right?

^No, $59000 is the total estimated cost of tuition, books, rent, etc. You will be paying more than $59000 though, since the list didn’t take personal expenses into account.

Oh okay. I just needed to find out how much in loans I had to borrow. Has anyone tried to log into Eagleops yet? I tried logging in to find workstudy jobs but it wouldn’t let me log in.

Now that today’s the last day of college for me, I’m going to have to do a lot of reading and playing around on opus and Emory’s website to figure out what I have to do.

I haven’t signed up for housing and I haven’t even paid the deposit yet.

I received a very, very generous offer from Emory; however, it saddens me to know that many others did not–so it seems–have their needs met. For what it’s worth, my situation is different: I am 26 with an eleven-month old son. And I didn’t make much money to begin with–especially not enough to live decently in New York.

That said, if you aren’t happy with what you received, I would recommend contacting the office of financial aid. Let them know what makes your circumstances different than the FAFSA may indicate. I wish nothing but the best for everyone in this forum.

And I look forward to seeing some of you on Emory’s campus. (Don’t worry, I won’t bring my son to class!)

I don’t think I’ll be attending Emory so that should open up a space for a wait-lister! Good luck to all!

^Same here. Doesn’t seem like there are any posters wait listed, but if you are, it seems that quite a few people are passing up their spots.

Good luck to all of you on any future endeavors.

Hope you have fun at Emory emerson, it is a very nice school.

Does anyone know why we can’t accept the estimated loan on our financial aid packet?

I got accepted but won’t be coming to Emory because Vanderbilt gave me a better offer. Does anyone know where we reject our offer on the website? I can’t find a link or information anywhere.

@m678x79xx - I think they will know you aren’t coming if you don’t pay the deposit. I could be wrong, so calling the admissions office might be a better idea.

When do we have to apply for housing? Is there a specific date that it’s due? I haven’t checked online yet and I just finished my finals yesterday -_- . Today is my first day of freedom! Now I have to figure out which school I’m going to go to!

@m678x79xx, I received this in email–If you do not plan on attending Emory in the fall, we ask that you send a withdrawal email with your name, date of birth, and EMPLID to admission.processing@emory.edu to inform us of your choice.

There is a new item on the TO-DO-LIST. They are asking me for my final transcript.

@chimikins - I had the same question, but when I called housing, the representative didn’t know. Instead she questioned my question with, “Why wouldn’t you want to apply for housing early?”, to which I said that I was still thinking about my aid offer.

She did say that even if we applied by next week it would be okay. Now for me, I’m an incoming sophomore so housing is guaranteed. If you are an incoming junior, I would apply ASAP since housing isn’t guaranteed for 3rd and 4th year students.

@nalatieer - I ignored that message since I’m going. I figured that by paying the deposit, they would know that I am coming.

@Math1216 - I actually received that email a while back. And it’s natural that they would ask for your final transcript.

Does anyone know Emory’s policy on grades? I was accepted in and on my acceptance letter it says My decision is based on satisfactory completion of my current courses. No GPA minimum. This is my first semester in which I may not got all A’s and B’s. I’m taking Calc, Chem, and Bio and I may get a C in both Chem and Bio. Can my decision be revoked? Even after the these C’s my GPA will be a 3.5x. I don’t know what I should do. These are my first C’s out of 60 credits.

aboutdatUSClife: two things. first, congratulations. to answer your question, emory will not rescind their acceptance letter if you receive c’s in above-referenced courses. however, if you get c’s in all of your classes, then i would be concerned. just call the admissions offer and speak to them. and second, if you’re going to emory you should change your name: datemorylife. haha, just teasing. hope that helps.

@emersongarcia Thank You! I already received an A in my calculus class so I won’t be getting all C’s but a C in two out of three classes worries me. Thank You for your response, I feel better about it. I’ll give them a call and see what they say. Haha I’m pretty torn between both schools as of now.

I’ve been accepted into USC my dream school, and Emory the school in the state that my parents live in. Both very prestigious private schools. I have received a really good amount of aid from Emory(only have to pay for housing if i live on or near campus instead of at home) and don’t know what USC is offering me just yet. I’m hoping neither rescind my offer of admission. If any of you guys have any ideas on which school is better or can help me make a decision, that would be awesome. I was planning on majoring in Psych and Premed track but might change that after this semester.

Aboutdat: I spent a good deal of time perusing student reviews of Emory – specifically pre-Med. From what I gather, Emory is not the best place for such students. Here’s why. Emory, rather than support and nurture the intellectual curiosity and commitment of pre-Med students, fosters a make-or-break environment in which students are deterred by “impossible science courses where it doesn’t matter how much you study because you’re going to get a C-.” In case you were wondering, that is, in fact, a quote from a pre-Med student at Emory. Other students cite the lack of intellectual exploration among students, and a pervasive attitude amongst students commonly referred to as “Emory-Apathy.” For the price and “prestige,” I wouldn’t expect to hear these things. Now, this isn’t to say that Emory isn’t a great place to study and be a pre-Med student. I’m sure there are many perks; I’m just trying to figure them out now. Not trying to dissuade you – just trying to offer what I’ve heard. Like most things, take it with a grain of salt.

I’m deciding between Emory, Bard College and Wake Forest. Maybe I’ll see you on campus. Either way, best of luck in your endeavors.
