Can anyone who visited give me any insight on the student body and campus culture? I’m from California and will not be able to visit.
I’m transferring from a New England NESCAC school which i found to be far too preppy with an overwhelming drinking culture.
@thecrazychimpz I live next to the campus (I do not attend), and the student body for the most part are liberal, focused highly in their studies, and typically are not the most social however are extremely intelligent, hardworking, and innovative. Emory is one of the best universities in the Southeast for research, and has excellent partnerships with Georgia Tech if you are interested in Engineering—specifically Biomedical Engineering.
Emory is in a beautiful area. You aren’t downtown however you are close enough that you get some of the benefits without the drawbacks. The area is densely populated with forested areas, there are plenty of parks around, and the food options are fantastic off campus. It is VERY relaxed and certainly not a campus for the highly energetic students who want a pumped up game day feel for sports.
Did I mention the campus is beautiful? It is stunning. The president has a park and lake that is available to the public and it is the perfect place to go and relax.
All in all, the students are academically driven, focused, and highly intelligent. There are many fantastic students, however expect a high ratio of international students. Drinking will be the least of your concerns, and the school is far from preppy.
Emory will provide you with a fantastic education and your job opportunities will definitely be in your favor!
Best of luck to you and your college decision! Congratulations on your acceptance!
I’ve applied to the business school at Emory, but I got admitted into the CAS program, saying that it is better for me to take the fundamental business courses before I start at an actual business school. Emory admissions suggest that I be patient and apply for an internal transfer within Emory next year as sophomore.
I am very surprised how a lot of you guys did not get in. I’m an international student with a 1770 SAT score (it was in the 1400 range in high school), 3.91 GPA Fall semester (I got a 3.2 GPA my senior year of high school with all regular classes). I do a lot of triathlons and have a quite a bit of leadership involvement. I have also done a lot of community service. I think my essay, which I think was perfect, helped me a lot.
Anyway, I am, most likely, not going to Emory. I’m waiting for USC (1st choice). Or else I will go to Boston University, to which I’ve been admitted (2nd choice), even though it’s ranked 42nd, as according to the US News just because I love Boston and have a lot of friends out there.
Accepted. For those who also got admitted, congratulations! For those who didn’t, especially with 4.0s, I think Emory gets a lot of high gpa applicants. But they use course selection, rigor, and even more importantly (I believe) your essays to differentiate. I look forward to seeing everyone who decides to attend at orientation. Emory was my #1 choice as I am from the Atlanta area and would not like to move out of state.
Have those who have been admitted received their financial aid decisions yet? I feel like I’ve been waiting for a long time 8-|
@smileyface31
Have you still not received it? It took awhile for me to get mine but I had a lot of outstanding documents as of last week. I had to call the financial aid office multiple times. You should call and request to speak with your financial aid advisor. The people that answer the phones aren’t really in charge of award decisions, waivers, etc. My advisor was very nice and got my application pushed through.
@Masterchief97 still haven’t found out yet, but I will email them on Monday.
@smileyface31 Have you received it yet?
@Masterchief97 still no…I really don’t get why either it’s been almost over a month since admission decision 8-|
@Masterchief97 just so I’m checking in the right place, is it located in when you login there’s a link on the left that says financial aid, and when you scroll down, it should be in the area that says “financial aid awards” ? Who was your financial aid advisor?
Yes, it should be. Instead of emailing, call the office and ask to speak to your advisor and they should forward your call. It’s better to get them on the phone.
@Masterchief97 I called them yesterday, and they said I will know soon, as my application hasn’t been reviewed yet. Thanks for the help!
