Official Fall '07 Transfer Thread =)

I'm somewhat confused by the situation with the deadline extention to May 1. Isn't it that all applications are extended for the transfer class (CC students and any other transfers)? It didn't seem like they wanted to discriminate by only allowing more CC students to transfer

I think its just VA CC students. And while they might not want to discriminate, they still want to increase CC transfers. But like the first deadline extension, I doubt a ton of applications will be coming in.

Yeah, I hope there aren't too many more applications. Realistically, how will the deadline change affect our notification date? Haha I'm still hoping for a repeat of last year's 4/15, but I don't know how possible that is with the extentions.

Last year apperently started getting them around the 25th. That's less than two weeks for us, so frankly, I'm just gonna wait and see. I figure we've been waiting for almost 2 months now, so less than 2 weeks won't kill us =P But I see it affecting us in one of two ways:
1) they still send out decisions for anyone who applied by 3/15 before May 1st, then send out the May 1st deadline applicants as they make decisions.
or
2) they wait to mail everything for everyone April 30th or so, maybe even the 27th, and that way they can get more people into the single wave.

Hopefully they'll do the first option, since I doubt a ton of applicants are still being sent in (I bet less than 15 a week). Plus, Dean J said in her blog that "We still plan on sending notification to those who applied by the regular deadline by May 1st. Those who submit late applications will be notified as soon as a decision on their file is reached.". The BY May 1st sounds promising, but who knows, it could mean April 30th. I guess its back to the waiting game we go.

^^ totally agree. I sent my application Jan 26th and its been a long wait!!!

Less than 2 weeks, hopefully

Hey, shoebox10, will you please post the weblink to Dean J's blogsite for those of us who dont have it. Thanks,

10 days to last year's mailing date!

Shoe, check in when you get a chance. I just heard there was a shooting in a residence hall and there's a gunman loose on your campus?!?

Hope you're safe. Please let us know you're okay.

Dean J - Thank you so much. I was actually there, at UVA, while this all was happening. I cannot tell you how much it hurt to be so far away from my Hokies while this was going on, but at the same time, the UVA community was so supportive, I realized how tight-knit UVA is. As much as I love UVA though, and still want to transfer, right now my heart is 110% with VT as we try to mend ourselves. Its just one of those situations that if you never experience it, you can never fully understand the pain, frustration, yet total love and support for those around you and your school.

I may be a Cav soon, but I'll forever be a Hokie.

Shoe,
So very relieved that you're safe. Take care and know that our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Virginia Tech family...

I'm so glad you're safe, Shoe. That's a bit of good news on a day that hasn't had much.

I second that ^

Dean J - as you can imagine, life at VT is uprooted. Terribly. We don't have mail access, and who knows when we will again. Obviously, grades are going to suffer. So, will there be anyway to find out from the admissions office about letters being mailed if we still can't reach our mailboxes? (Many people have mailboxes in other buildings, thus, we cannot get in due to complete and total lockdown of all dorms. It is assumed this will continue for the rest of the semester, and students are being mandated to come in through the door one at a time unless it is GUARENTEED that the other person lives there).
Also, final grades are going to be a mess. How much is this going to hurt us?

Dean J, thank you. For your help, your concern, and helping us Hokies out. I trust that UVa will support the VT community and its potential transfers in any way possible. Pass this thanks on to the entire admissions office if you can.

I would imagine that the professors at VT would not be overly critical when giving out grades for this semester as they clearly understand the circumstances. I would imagine that they would be very lenient with grades this semester.

So, what are the chances that they'll start mailing the decisions by 4/21? I have to say, with the combined stress of up-coming finals and the whole admissions games, this next week is going to be filled with stress.

my money is on the first mailing going out tomorrow...

they don't post decisions first?

what makes you think that easttowest?

here's to hoping that you're right!

and BigE- last year they mailed the decisions out early which arrived around the 25th of April. I think they didn't post the decisions online until april 30th or so
