Official Fall 2006 Success Stories

Any people out there that applied to Big Name Schools and thought you had no chance at all, but ended up getting in? What were your stats and from Where to Where did you transfer or get accepted?

Thought I had no chance, but got admitted to Wharton, Univ of Penn from Univ of Michigan

mishra, your stats were absolutely amazing :]

Harvard with Cs and Bs in high school and a 3.7 in college and a 2100 SAT!

Wow For Shaganov thats awesome. Congrats! Is there anything you think that made you stand out from everyone else.

honest to god passion for government, learning and harvard, maturity, introspection, professors who knew all of these qualities about me and wrote about them, and ECs that showed innovation and leadership skills. I'm also a really good writer, and that helps anywhere.

For Shaganov, are you a sophomore or junior transfer?

sophomore spring 07

I got accepted off of the waiting list at my first choice, Brown, after being told that they were not going to be taking any people from the list since the numbers were full. I got rejected from every other Ivy to which I applied; Columbia, Dartmouth, Cornell, and Penn and I also didn't get into Michigan. Statistically Brown was apparently the most difficult this year, they only accepted something like 6 percent. Go figure. To those who are browsing these boards in preperation for next year, I can't stress how important it is to cover your bases and apply to as many schools as you have time for, can afford and could possibly imagine yourself being genuinely happy at; it only takes one admission officer to read your application and find something special in it that all other schools might look over.

for shag. i know ive prob. asked you before, but what are you're stats again?

WOW, congrats!! Brown is AWESOME.

Timberland what are you majoring in? And how much would you say you spent applying to those schools(application costs, etc.)?

Somehow, I got thru a 4% acceptance rate at Boston College - Over 1200 applicants for 50 spots - I still can't believe it! I'm absolutely thrilled to be going though, even brought my younger sister up for a tour on tuesday. Its a good thing I got into BC though, it was the only school I really seriously applied to.

caa- something in the social sciences; history, american studies, govt. Each application was around 60 dollars on average, it is a small investment in your future.

Got into UCLA from a california community college. GPA about 3.45. Applied as earth science major and had only taken one geology class.

I got into Harvard off of the waitlist this year, which completely surprised me. I honestly did not think I had much of a chance. I had about a 3.5 GPA from college, a decent high school record, and decent SAT scores -- nothing exceptional. But I am heavily involved in activities that greatly interest me, and I am very passionate about my major. I spent a great deal of time on my essays, although I am not a fantastic writer. My application was very honest, and it accurately reflected my personality. Also, the professors who wrote my rec letters knew me well and liked me a lot.

I got into Berkeley engineering with a 3.3 GPA and some, apparently, good essays.

Accepted to Columbia (College) and Penn (College). Didn't think it was possible at all.

I got into UCLA with a 2.9gpa!

I had a 1.7 GPA not even a year ago; since then, I've taken nearly 60 units: 9 last summer, 20 in the fall, 27 in the spring, and now 3 this summer. I'm going to UC Berkeley this fall.
