I just got accepted into COLA economics today

@ mandela512

most people here that applied for engineering said they got in. i applied but got no response, so I am to assume that the engineering decisions have been made, and now they are considering my second option, astronomy. that is what i think. but i am international so this may make a big difference in when i get my reply.

^ I’m also international and this has been up for at least 15 days if not more

anyone hear back today???

nope:( it would have been nice to hear back before the weekend though…

i just found out i got rejected… i applied to mccombs (i knew i wasnt going to get in) and liberal arts… im not sure what my gpa was cause i was in 3 diff schools but combined it was in the low 3s cause of one bad semester 7 years ago. other than that i have almost a 3.9 gpa for few semesters including two 4.0 semesters at ACC.

anyone knows if the status is just for your first school now or it means both school?
can i appeal? what is the process? im pretty heartbroken right now and not sure what to do.

sts2010- I am in the same boat. I went to a high school on a community college campus and made a few poor grades (2 Cs, 1 D, and 1 incomplete that turned into an F). I was 15 when I took those classes, nearly 6 years ago. I got my act together for my junior and senior year of HS and graduate with a 3.6 (not great, but a vast improvment). I went a rigorous private school for my first year of college and made a 3.9. I took a year off and worked in a field I was passionate about. Then, I moved to Austin thinking transfering to UT wouldn’t be that big of a problem as I had great recommendations from previous professors and my employer from my year off. WRONG. My 3.9 went down to a 3.02 when they averaged all my credits together (in high school I had earned 60 college credits, then 32 at my first “real” year at college). Even though they were classes I took in HS, UT treated them exactly the same. I applied and was denied. Then, I took 5 classes at ACC and made all As and had a stellar recommendation from a professor that said I was among the top 5% of students he had ever taught (not bragging, just saying it was a nice letter). Applied again (to COLA btw). Denied. I visited the transfer office a few times and the staff there recognized that I was in a frustrating situation and were very encouraging. They encouraged me to appeal, but I was denied. The 5 A’s only moved my GPA up to a 3.25.

I might appeal my decision after this semester so they can see another semester of all As but I might not as I don’t think it will really do anything. At this point, I am really seeing how much of a numbers game I think admissions is at UT. It is a HUGE school with so many applicants. Maybe it is something else with my application, but I had a bunch of people edit my essays, great recommendations, and volunteer hours at various organizations. So, who knows… but at this point, I am just going to move on and go to a the honors college at a less prestigious university. Not what I thought I would end up doing, but it is what it is. I hope the best for you, and I don’t mean to be discouraging. But, just try and be realistic. Oh and one of the transfer advisors told me that he saw some 3.2s get in last semester, but it is rare. I’m sure they wouldn’t officially quote this, but he said 3.5-3.6 and up are what they are usually looking for.

Sorry this post is so long!

Oh, and if you want to appeal you need to write your letter and then have the new material sent in (LOR’s, transcripts, updated resume, etc.). I am pretty sure they will only look at it if you have new information for them to consider.

I didn’t mean to be so blunt in my post, I just wanted to let you know the outcome of my situation which seems similar to yours so you don’t waste your time. I wish someone would have told me all this a year ago so I didn’t waste a year taking classes at a CC for nothing! :-)

I just got an email from them saying they are reviewing my application but didn’t receive this one thing and want me to email scanned copies of it asap. " ** The decision committee is meeting on Tuesday to make final decisions.** " This was part of the email, so I’m guessing most of us will know by tuesday

@ mali101 Really? When I called, they said the decision will be made within next 2 weeks! I called on Friday (April, 23th)

Well that’s what it said in the email I got…maybe its only for Natural Sciences since I applied for Physics

yeah…i hope this torture ends earlier…hopefully you will hear good news!

i cant take this any longer!! did anyone international engineer got a reply ?

elaremanamou, I called the international admissions office today. The representative said that the committee will make decisions tomorrow (April 27th) and the result will be posted on Wednesday.

Don’t worry that other US students have already got the decisions, we are in a different pool. Graduate and International Admissions Center makes decisions for us. You’ll find it pretty soon.

I’m international too so I guess we’ll all get decisions on wednesday

thats good to know! good luck everyone :D

What time are decisions usually posted?

its almost 5 pm and nothing! this is killing me…

are you sure the decision will be posted today?
