thai if it doesn’t transfer over exactly, they will typically give you hours in the discipline, just not a specific course equivalent. Often you can use that as an elective or when you have to meet a requirement that you can choose from multiple course offerings.

sundoll, would you be able to look over my Statement of Purpose essay and Resume?

I wrote about diversity in my statement of purpose. Do you think that’s okay? Lol. The statement of purpose is so vague…

I know, I’m pretty freaked out about the essays. Did you mention your reasoning for pursuing your intended major and specific fields you are interested in?

I organized mine in three paragraphs.

First describes why I am interested in Anthropology

Second describes my personal experiences with Anth and scientists I admire

Last sums it all up and explains that I am dedicated to UT

I wrote about how diversity makes a person more knowledgeable. :\ Oh boy…

However, a lot of people are saying that UTA transfer are usually based on your GPA anyways. 3.5+ you’re almost guaranteed in COLA. They look at the other stuff if you’re borderline-reject. I hope that’s true…

Hello! I am applying as a transfer student to the Cockrell School of Engineering from Lone-Star College in Houston.

I have a 4.0 GPA and will have completed calculus 3, engineering physics II, and general chemistry II by the end of this semester…Chances? I should be “in” right?

I’ll have 73 hours completed and about 50 of those are transferable. Oh yeah i’m 18 and just graduated from high school (did dual credit since I was a sophomore), so i’ll be out of college before i’m 21 and will be making 80k a year…can’t wait :D.

dbag status

rofl agreed

no amount of money can fix a ******bag.

So I just found out that my Fall 09 GPA is only a 3.2

I am heartbroken and now I’m really scared to apply. How high does my GPA need to be on the updated transcript for me to get in???

I’m already taking 17 hours, but I can take more and some Spring Break classes

^ Preferably anything at or above a 3.5 GPA should get you in. So try to make a 3.7+ for the Spring, and you should have a good chance for Liberal Arts at least.

Do they weigh the essays a lot? =| I’m not working thath ard on the essays… haha I’m relying on my 3.8 to get me in to COLA.

Uh. The essays are probably if you’re borderline on getting in. With a 3.8, I think you could probably write a couple sentences and still get in lol. I didn’t really try hard on my essays either, but that’s because I’m relying on my 4.0. :D

Hahah. Yeah, of course I’m writing SOMETHING… Just don’t know if I want to edit it and all that jazz… hahah. Sigh oh wells! I wish you luck in getting in!

thaisteak, you’re lucky for having such a great GPA.

I’m gonna freak if I don’t get in…

Don’t worry dude. I hope you get in, and I wish you the best of luck!

so what do you guys consider a good essay topic?
For the statement of purpose I’m planning on explaining everything from why I want to be a nurse to why I want to be a student at UT.

The second one however I don’t really have many ideas. I think I should choose something a little less controversial. but who knows… should I step out there and be bold with my personal “conservative” views on the health care bill (something that relates to my future job)? UT is a liberal school. So that sounds like a bad idea but then again i think it’s bold.
What do you think?

Should you go bold with a conservative opinion in your essay? If you pick something that isn’t a “hot button” or potentially offensive issue, and if you have solid and clear reasoning behind the arguments you make, I think the admissions folks would be likely to see past their own opinions and recognize that they want intelligent people of all political backgrounds to be represented at UT. Or you can just play it safe and choose another angle.

UThopeful22, I definitely I agree with ffhrea.

I also believe that you should write about an issue that relates to your major, in this case, the health care bill would be perfect.

In my essay, I will be discussing the importance of humanitarianism and philanthropy, and illustrating the importance by using the recent earthquake in Haiti as an example.

Always try to retain personal values in this essay, and make it known why it means so much to you.
