Official Fall 2010 Transfer Thread!

What’s the deal with transcripts?

Do they make a decision based on the transcript and GPA you send in by March 1 or do they wait until you send in your “updated” transcript after the spring semester?

I wrote about homelessness. Coming from San Francisco, California, it’s a huge thing here…

Does anybody know if they accept Pass/No Pass transferable coursework? Or do they have to be all 30 graded transferable coursework?

I am a little confused on transferring into the business school. I am not a normal transfer as I am currently doing the CAP program and I am attending UTSA. I made a 4.0 the first semester so baring a sub 2.45 GPA this spring, I will be into Texas. But this only gets me into the COLA and I was interested in the business school.
From what I understand and have found on the UT website, the business school requires Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Calculus 2 to get into the college. My problem by the end of the spring will only have Microeconomics and Calculus 1 completed. I planned on taking Calc 2 and Macro this summer but would this be too late to get into the business school for the fall?
I would ask a counselor at my school but they are honestly not helpful at all.

I went to a transfer session yesterday at the Houston Admissions Center.

@LonghornDan, I think as long as you have completed the courses upon beginning the Fall semester, you should be good. Maybe write a letter explaining that you will be taking the required courses in the summer?

aridnepenthe can you answer my question? thanks

@thaisteak, I’m not quite sure what you mean by “Pass/No Pass”, but I do know that they only look at courses that you completed. If this included failing grades, then they do look at them, as those grades would be averaged into your GPA…but I can’t be certain.

Classes that are pass/no pass means that if you pass the course, you get the units. Saying this, my sociology class is worth 3 units and if I pass with a grade of a C or better I get a P instead of a C,B, or A. That’s what I meant. Thanks! Just wanted to know if they wanted all of the 30 units to be graded as in with A B C D F s… or are classes with P/NP class okay?

Woah, I’ve never even heard of those! Most likely they are gonna want to see the grades of the courses because they determine your GPA…so I don’t think they would count. Call the admissions office to be sure though.

Hi. I’m a freshman Psychology/Premed major. Liberal Arts and Natural Sciences are the colleges I applied for. My GPA is currently 3.45. I have 33 credit hours as of right now including from ACC dual credit, and will have another 15 hours after spring semester. I’m an honors student and will get a letter of recommendation from my english professor. I’m currently in Denton, but it would be great to get back to Austin…

thaisteak, I know for my school pass/fail classes don’t count toward your GPA, but do count for credit hours and toward your major (if you can use them as an elective or something). Whether or not they are transferable – that’s up to Texas.

Does anyone know the answer to my question?—

"What’s the deal with transcripts?

Do they make a decision based on the transcript and GPA you send in by March 1 or do they wait until you send in your “updated” transcript after the spring semester and you have completed 30 hours?"… I have 28 right now…

They won’t make any admission decision until you have the thirty hours completed. They might make one earlier if you have a really strong gpa. But I’m almost positive they won’t even look at your application for admission until the final transcript is turned in at the end of your spring term.

So what’s the time frame when they start sending out decisions and for how long does it continue?

@mali101 - At the transfer session I attended last week, I was told that it depends on what college you are applying to, but decisions are sent anytime between late May/early June for COLA, the more competitive schools are later.

Of course, this will take longer if you have to send in an updated transcript.

That’s good news I guess because my winter quarter ends in mid march and by then hopefully my gpa will be higher …just praying to God it’s higher

hey if one wants to transfer to mccombs, one HAS to take calc 1 and 2 before one can apply right?

@mali101 - I feel you. I ended up in a car accident this past semester and my GPA is only a 3.2!!! I’m praying that I get it up to at least a 3.4, but I’m really hoping for a 3.5

Yep, you need both calc 1 and 2 along with introductory micro/macro economics completed.

^^ I assume it has to be included in your updated transcripts (i.e. you cannot take it over the summer)?

I posted at another thread but did not get any reply. Hopefully I can get some help here.
I am applying as a transfer student to ut austin. My GPA is 3.78 with 41 credits. I am enrolled at Northlake college in Irving, Texas now. I plan to transfer to the College of Natural Science majoring in Biology. My second choice is COLA. How hard is it to get into College of Natural Science? I am taking Calculus I now and will take Calculus II and Calculus III in summer. Will the College of Natural Science consider I fulfill the calculus requirement? What’s my chance of being accepted? Does anyone know when UT will make the decision? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
